Definitely a rival/big game. Itās all about money. I assume they promised him a robust recruiting budget.
Take a deep breath, goddamn lmao.
Yeah they still have to actually fund a team⦠this isnāt 10 years ago. Weāve shown an ability to do that, I have to assume that theyāre thinking getting him locked down means theyāll get the donations? Penn state and tech are extremely different places to recruit in the NIL worldā¦

Brother go touch some grass
Iām not worried about Franklin in Blacksburg. Best case scenario for the hokies is he comes out like fire and is off to the SEC in 3 yrs.
More likely scenario they are with rest of the ACC in +/- 7 win territory for the next 5 yrs always waiting for him to hit the big one
The reality is they can try the quick fix, it did not work at a place like LSU with Brian Kelly when they tried it. Franklin may very well work out, but if UVa is actually going to move forward then this canāt concern them. Invest $$ in the program and Elliottās staff, continue finding ways to create relationships in the state, and kick their ass in two Saturdays. Results can only help.
Virginia Tech even lives in the heads of our guys. lol. Itās kinda funny the level of ptsd we all suffer
Not going to lieā¦donāt love Franklin at VT.
While I donāt think weāre in danger of them becoming a legit title contender, I could see them as a consistent 8-10 win team, competing for the ACC, and being a major pain in the butt in recruiting,
Has our success this year been built on the back of in-state recruiting? Obviously thereās some, but seems so much less important than 5 years ago. Franklin isnāt good news for us, but I think thereās room for two programs at the level.
Not so much that weāll lose recruits to him, just that heāll bring in higher caliber players than theyāve had in awhile.
Long term program building comes out of HS. And the Franklin hire gives them a lot of energy.
We win the ACC, make the playoffs. Dabo retires. Clemson goes for Elliot and he takes Des Kitchens with him. Al Golden wants out of the pros after only 1 year. With all the cash influx from a good year we poach QB whisperer/Air Raid Master Jason Beck as OC/Head coach in waiting who brings Hagans back as Co-OC/OC in waiting. And we keep Rud (who actually shares the exact same Bend dont break mentality).
Boom thatās our chance to relevancy off the momentum of the $20 million and the easy schedule.
Everyone is celebrating it so hard for tech it honestly makes me feel better. The sure thing CFB hires rarely work and this is getting that treatment.
No but 40 transfers isnāt a trick you can pull every year. Need a pipeline of talent that doesnāt involve half the roster being new every year. In state is just the easiest way to do that.
The coordinators will really make or break Franklin. Heās not an Xās and Oās guy, and I donāt know how heās going to get the quality of coordinator at Tech that he did at PSU, so thatās a silver lining. I still think heās probably a floor of 7 wins by year 2 if not next year though. Heās going to get A LOT of talented guys right away.
LaNorris Sellars is only 20 years old and the transfer rumor mill is already churning for him. Would be a natural fit with 2 years left in the Air Raid which he was recruited for.
edit: The Jason Beck effect
I fear Miami has already offered him the GDP of a small island nation
I mean, if Hagans is looking for OC jobs, would be interesting if we moved on from Des.
Very tempting but Iād rather have an experienced OC. The stakes are too high at this point to learn on the job.
Yeah I donāt wanna be his first coordinator job.
I know theyāre different skill sets, but he was getting roasted by the PSU fanbase last season and all this season for the lack of recruiting, development and production from the WRs. I donāt know if Franklin wouldāve fired him, but it seemed like he was closer to getting pushed out at PSU than getting an OC job somewhere.
