Double Jason Beckās salary to be our OC/coach in waiting if Clemson comes for Elliot. Doubt Elliot would want anything to do with air raid though
Gordie Sammis is an OC? Cool
Canāt or I should say very doubtful Des is let go after this season. It would take 2 more versions of the Wake game with Chandler as the QB for that to happen.
Iāll give Des credit this is the best version of him weāve seen so far and itās landed him a borderline B- C+ grade depending on how you average out the highs vs the lows.
That said he hasnāt been so bad that you can justify firing him
I keep forgetting his deal is through 27 not sure why I have it stuck in my head differently.
That doesnāt change my logic. Tack on 2-3 on the end of that with a fair buyout and Iām okay with that. TEās shown he can cook with the right ingredients now he has to prove he can do it night in and night out. Let him have some runway with some actual resources.
I would argue that our program could really use a little more ānot good enoughā and a little less ānot so bad you can fire himā but I know what you mean and realize heās probably back next year.
Two sides of the same coin basically.
If they made the move any of the previous 3 years Iād stand up and applaud.
Make it after this year and sure I get it, I wonāt fight for him to stay but it would feel out of place.
If we beat Tech, he gets a 1 year extension. I say tack a year onto that. Give him a raise or other resources too.
Worth mentioning, given the coaching turnover across the country, our assistants will get looks elsewhere. Theyāre pretty close/loyal so not sure anyone leaves but itās not impossible. I expect someone will push hard for Rud. Wouldnāt surprise me if one of the SEC schools interviews Des (heās better respected in the football community than our message boards).
Honestly thatās perfect. 3 years left doesnāt necessarily force extension conversations (although his agent will).
I will pre-register my extremely aggressive and unrealistic take that I will be calling for Tony Elliottās firing (and frankly, maybe the shutdown of the football program) if we lose to Tech next weekend.
Just donāt want anyone to be surprised by my actions if it comes to that.
If that option is available for 10 wins thatās referenced in @OrangeHoo12 I think thatās a great time for TE to take the 1yr option. As @EmbracePaceUVA thatāll extend him through 28 plenty of time to workout a new deal if things keep rolling and easy enough to get out of if they donāt
I was thinking about that during last weeks game. Rudās defense has strung together some bangers this year. Basically top 30 in every major category including several in the top 10. I wouldnāt be surprised if a number of programs come calling his name. I have no idea if he answers or not.
Now that heās a coach heās Gordon! Like him better as a Gordie.
Perfect for their animal husbandry major. ![]()
But seriously, nice work from 274 Sport and its king, Peter Nokos, here!

I donāt know how but Iām working that into my everyday life. Reminds me of

Re: an extension for Elliott, not all extensions are the same. There are university-friendly extensions and coach-friendly extensions, and thatās what matters. Giving him two extra years that donāt break the bank on the annual raise and donāt create a prohibitive buyout (if it turns out this year was a fluke like Londonās Peach Bowl season) is fine.
Good point. All my extension talk was under the assumption that both sides are working together to create deals that fairly compensate TE and also remain salary/cash/buyout friendly for the school.
I think UVA should be willing to pay him (or his staff if he prefers) more now in exchange for a friendly buyout (aka not changing it).
