I think it’s more simple than that. When a wide array of SEC teams could get away with cheating, they won. Now that there is really nothing that constitutes cheating, teams from other conferences are competitive (or better).

The SEC is obviously greatly diminished but if you lined them up with the B1G where 1 played 1, 2 played 2, etc, I think the B1G would win the top 3 (maybe even pretty easily based off what we’ve seen so far) and the SEC would win 4-however deep you wanted to cut it off at.

I know it’s hard since the conferences have 16, 17 and 18 members, but I wonder if they’d ever adopt a 9+3 scheduling format where every P4 team plays 9 conference games and the 3 OOC games are against 1 team from each of the 3 other P4 conferences with the matchups decided by last season’s standings, so the 10th place SEC team’s 3 OOC games are against the 10th place ACC, Big Ten and Big 12 teams.

I’m not sure what they’d do with cross-conference rivalry games and I don’t know if it’d be legal or kosher to basically freeze out the G6 and FCS schools, but freezing out ND might be considered by some to be a positive not a negative. Maybe you rotate through playing 2 other conferences a year so you have options on that 12th game (rival, bye game, ND, etc…)

Something like that would give meaningful information on comparative conference strength. A handful of games where the better schools in one conference beat the lesser schools in another conference don’t tell us much.

This is an underrated need being addressed. We had a great one last year in Bryce Robinson. Bracey had been cross training but now he’s gone too. We had one true freshman LS last year in Jacob Tannenbaum but he’s undersized listed at 6’1 215 (Robinson was 6’7 265 for comparison). Rubinoff is a little bigger than Tannenbaum at 6’2 225.

No one thinks about your LS until he starts missing the punter or holder and then it’s a disaster. If he’s good, then I’m happy.

100% it’s a position that is thankless maybe the most. But like you said, let a snap sail high or wide of a punter. Or roll in the dirt to the holder and it’s a total diaster.

Watch any HS game and the long snap is an adventure.

Like pop flies for HS baseball teams… never a guarantee they will be caught.

Yup, so many of those high floaters come lofting in and do that in college and your punter is picking his teeth up from the turf.

Checked out Rubinoff’s twitter page and saw his transfer tape. Kid gets the ball to the punter or holder quickly and accurately. Also seemed to handle different alignments from the other team well without impacting his snaps. Oh, and he included a couple of reps in the snow that looked like good snaps.
