Big night for UVA 3 seed odds. might be up to 10th in WAB now or very close to it (although Purdue does play NU tomorrow).

Edit: Nebraska just got blown out @ UCLA too.

Can we get Trent Perry in the portal?

Isn’t Michigan tampering with him?

Also feel like given what we already know that he might just bop over to USC

Agree. The NBA has ways to incentivize continuity that don’t get used in college basketball for various reasons. A couple of half-baked carrots for continuity that don’t require using the big E-word (maybe):

  • Vesting retention bonuses for players: Conferences pool a percentage of media rights revenue into a pot that gets divvied out purely based on continuity at a school
  • Bird Rights: Players who stay at their school count for 50% of their actual revenue share value when it comes to cap math
  • Post-grad grants conditional on academic achievement: Graduate from a school you’ve played for X number of seasons, and you get handed money upon graduating

The stick I would like to see used more is regulating college basketball agents.

I like this idea and I’ll expound…
75% of rev share for freshmen that stay
50% for sophomores who stay
25% for juniors who stay
0% for any 5th years who stay (redshirts)

This is the one, I think. I don’t think bird rights will pass muster legally absent a CBA, and a CBA is itself illegal unless there’s a union

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if the Bird Rights idea was legal or not

Just to expand a bit, I’d guess it’s illegal because you couldn’t have that system absent a horizontal agreement (and anything imposed by the NCAA will be viewed as a horizontal agreement) to impose it, and then it seems like a violation

Just back on hoops, the Lil Peja thing and this thing are probably good reminders that keeping the majority of our eligible to return guys will be a great outcome.

What if you just let teams pay them
More instead of it counting less?

I think the ACC ones are Seth Trimble, Donald Hand Jr and I have no idea who the 3rd one is.

Dillon Hunter from Clemson.

Hand is a redshirt Junior so he does not count.

Edit: The third one is Benny Gaeler (Stanford). Literally the last team roster I looked at…

Can that be right - just 22? Not even more end of the bench guys?

Yeah, walk-ons don’t count which would expand it.

Impressive that Purdue has 3. Loyer, Smith and Kauffman-Renn.

Hmm, maybe Mark Pope took that extra defender that Nate Oates didn’t use…

I think it’s complicated. The other backdrop to all this is we only have a cap because of a settlement to an antitrust lawsuit, blessed by a federal judge who’s been more involved in these issues than other person (certainly any other judge - she even did the original O’Bannon case - it’s all ibannons fault as @chavlicek15 says)

Otherwise a cap wouldn’t be okay…

I’m sure Hav is happy to be tagged into a legal discussion. Ha ha! Please send your check to @AnonymooseHoo

Northwestern squandered their double digit lead. Close game, but not sure Northwestern has it in them to pull it off.

It’s a Purdue crowd in Evanston. Hope we avoid a Hokie takeover on Saturday - sounds awful to hear the crowd during NW free throws and when calls go against Purdue.
