Dominant win today. BC is bad but we steamrolled them, 81-55. (Torvik predicted a 12-point win.)
Six (!) players in double figures. Including Smith with 12.

So the takeaway is Smith is that good?
No, the takeaway is that BC is abjectly terrible. Also has losses to Holy Cross, Harvard, UMass, JMU, Murray State, and Quinnipiac (by an even bigger margin than we beat them by).
Surprising to me to see that Virginia is fifth in the ACC as of today in NET
I see us as 4th?
Great though! When we beat them all itāll be great for our seeding.
On the spectrum of expectations at UVA, where do we think womenās basketball falls? Is making the NCAA tournament more often than not a realistic and fair expectation for that program? Iām honestly not sure.
Bowl games every season for football is a fair expectation. NCAA tournament for the menās basketball program is reasonable. Baseball making the tournament is fair. Same goes for the olympic sports like soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey I guess.
I think itās easy to say, āYes, we expect womenās basketball to make the NCAA tournament more often than not.ā But in practice, does that make sense given the landscape of womenās college basketball? Iām trying to work this out in my head and Iām really not sure where I fall.
Somebody can tell me why Iām wrong, but I struggle with why it shouldnāt be the expectation that we make the tournament on a regular basis.
I realize every program canāt be great at every sport, but we have a strongish history in the sport, excellent basketball facilities, a great academic experience (probably matters a little more than on the menās side), and play in a great basketball conference. We also now apparently have strong donor support. With all of that in place, I donāt see why the expectation shouldnāt be that we assemble tournament caliber teams frequently.
I mean what disadvantages do we have? We donāt have the legacy of the elite elite programs sure, and we arenāt going to spend as much as UConn or South Carolina, but we are far from a poor athletic department. We donāt have outdated facilities that need to be refurbished, we arenāt in a crappy geographic location for recruiting, etc. If VT can regularly produce good teams, to me there is zero excuse why we canāt. We just havenāt, and if a coaching staff canāt make it work here with the advantages we do have in place, then we need to keep searching until we find one who can.
No idea how that profile equals 34⦠Un competitive against anybody serious
Olivia McGhee: āAfter battling through an ankle injury for a while, I finally decided it was time to get it taken care of.ā Had surgery, out for season.
31-13 Hoos after Q1. I think we might be better than Howard.

Smith had 12 points in the first 5 minutes. A 96 ppg pace. Now sheās on pace for only 48 ![]()
It appears early negative assessments of the Lady Hoos must now be reassessed post-Smithās arrival on the court. What an addition!
Mo 3/15 FG
Rest of team 31/50 FG
At some point sheās gonna have to stop leading the team in misses every game.
Her top line numbers look mostly in line with last season: Verifying Browser...
Maybe the problem is playing 33 minutes in a blowout? Like why?
Gabby only got 15 minutes.
Moās the best player on the team and the best offensive player by a good margin. If we look at the on-offs: hoop-explorer.com/TeamReport?gender=Women&incRapm=true&team=Virginia&year=2025%2F26&
The team literally canāt make threes when sheās not on the court. They shoot them less (37% of the overall FGA when sheās on, 27% when sheās off) and worse (On: 34%, Off: 19%).
The on-offs do make the case that Weimar needs to get more minutes over Amanze.
I think Weimar and Amanze have both been solid but interesting to see the numbers. Honestly, I think the biggest determining factor of their minutes will be foul trouble.
Kinda hard to tell though - sheās averaging 37.3 minutes in the 3 losses. And she wasnāt good in any of those⦠scored 13 meaningless empty calorie points late in Vanderbilt game after down by 25 in the 4th. Had 12 in the 4th vs Nebraska after down by 19.
She tries hard and is savvyā¦just gonna be hard to have success at a higher level if your best player is 5-6 with mediocre athleticism and foot speed.
If Smith steps up along with Weimar and Levy as primary options and Mo as facilitator then we gotta chance.
Finally wrapping up the noncon. Torvik has us as 36-point favorites.

Levy in sweats. Iām sure Mox will have a lot to say about it. ![]()
