⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

May be splitting hairs but doubtful he would have signed an actual contract yet.

If he signed anything it was likely a memorandum of understanding or offer / terms sheet.

I know you are way more into baseball than everyone but maybe @KarlHess and I think it is very cool by yall. But once Oak heard Hottie Totty it was O V E R.

Not even close

  1. She just signed a contract extension, the President/BOV is not firing her any time soon absent a “for cause” reason and 2) PR hit? the casual Virginia sports fan who watches games on TV and might attend a football or basketball or 2 a year has not spent more than 2 seconds thinking about the baseball coach in the past year and they’re in no way connecting this news to Tony Bennett and Bronco Mendenhall

I understand that the baseball program is very important to you and near and dear to your heart. To the vast majority of sports fans, college baseball is not even a blip on their sports radar.

You don’t think baseball is top 3?

So is he going or not? Stuff looks positive but I don’t want my hopes up.

Om the casual fans radar?

It might be 3 but its a distant 3rd. Honestly any sport you slot into that spot is going to be distant. Any ammount of ticket sales, merch sales, tv ratings back it up.

Lets not forget 25 yrs ago the basebll program was 2 donor checks away from not being around

I have a lot of feelings about all of this. Going to share once a decision is made public.

What BDrag said.

Also, by what measure are you asking? Top 3 among Virginia sports fans? Die hards or casuals? Or donors? Or are you asking about among college sports nationally?

Some people are going to be anti-Carla no matter what for 2 very specific reasons she can’t control, despite the fact they’d deny it to no end.

It’s possible you’re correct, but I’d submit it’s every bit as likely some people are going to be pro-Carla no matter what for those same 2 very specific reasons she can’t control, despite the fact they’d deny it to no end. Problem for Carla is the high visibility matters she can control (hiring/retaining good coaches), she’s done an objectively awful job….yet she got a raise, an extension and has supreme job security.

I love baseball and I’m bummed as hell that we might not be heavily investing into it as much as people want…..

But if we invested into baseball with the football money the same people would b***h about that too.

Yes you need to have money for all sports, but you certainly have to prioritize some over others. Football is going to be a priority since it’s been abysmal and would be the reason we’re left out of the SEC or B10(if we were to be left out).

football sucks women’s basketball sucks two hall of fame coaches quit under her watch so yeah play the race and gender card

Look I’m not the biggest fan of Carla, but how was she supposed to stop TB from retiring? I’d love your input.

I think if you ranked college sports by nationwide interest it would go something like:

Tier 1: football
Tier 2: men’s basketball
Tier 3: Nothing because the gap is so big
Tier 4: baseball, women’s basketball, and maybe softball (still the fastest growing sport I believe)
Tier 5: other team sports
Tier 6: individual sports that aggregate into a team competition
