That was a littlepage hire. He tended to be a bit more creative/out of left field in his hires.
Carla tends to hire the one on paper that is more nationally obvious, regardless of fit or circumstance.

If he got Duke to Omaha, that’s some Spurrier-type voodoo shit. You take it all day if you can get him.
But gotta lock him up in private beforehand.
Kinda with regards to Pollard, but on a lesser scale. Very few coaches have the resume that O’Connor does, so not gonna really be apples to apples but Duke went 60 years without a postseason appearance in baseball before Pollard made his first regional in 2016. Similar to O’Connor, the job he’s done in Durham to build up that program is nothing short of miracle work.
Game done changed I am sure. World is win tomorrow not in 5 years
Mike London would like a word (that was the correct hire at the time though)
We knew the Bolands a bit when they were here. The guy was a genius coach and he gave 100% to that. He was maybe a little less together at other things. At UVA, everything was perfectly together and a well-oiled machine all around (which he very much helped build). Once he was out of that machine, it got harder to hold things together.
Maybe I just missed them, but I never heard rumors at UVA of the sort of stuff that sank him at Baylor. I think it was more a symptom than a cause.
Wake Forest has been eliminated from the postseason. Could be relevant to us if Walter ends up being a serious candidate.
Walter will have to explain this in the interview
What was that?
I just want to say this: I went to over a dozen home games this past season and there were no more than a few hundred fans at the games. So, all of you that are whining about losing our coach, how many of you showed up for the home games? The attendance at our games this past season was pathetic. There was no energy from the fan base this season. I can see several reasons why Oak might leave but one clear reason is that our fan base has totally eroded to nothing. Many want to blame Carla, the transfer portal, NIL, SEC, etc., etc., but it’s time look in the mirror.
Maybe don’t start the season with national title expectations and proceed to suck ass for a month and a half and expect a crowd to show up at a midweek game against a shitty opponent.
But nobody showed up when we were #2 or anytime thereafter. Fan support is important no matter what the record is. Your response is what drives good coaches away. The plus for me and a number of other fans that I met was that we had general admission tickets but sat anywhere we wanted. Even when we lost, the quality of baseball and the atmosphere at the Dish is incredible. Baseball is truly a fun fan experience and a great social event.
We have 20 players in the portal
I don’t live close by so it’s more of a commitment to get to a game, especially mid-week. The Dish is a great place to watch baseball. However, on March 25 the pre-season #2, super-hyped team, was 11-12 (after having just lost to Liberty, the first time, 3-5). This was after they had just been swept by Duke at home. Quite frankly, there wasn’t much to root for as far as excitement.
To ask people to invest time (and baseball is not a fast game with a lot of dead time) for a mediocre product, from what our own eyes were telling us, is naive. At that time, the pitching sucked and the hitting sucked worse. There was no excitement. The team looked like the Bad News Bears at times mid-way through (and in the final game of the ACCT).
Dysfunctional baseball, with little fire on the field and anemic plate appearances for large portions of the season, was a recipe for lackluster fan support. To think it would be otherwise is just not being honest. People have too many options, and too much going on day-to-day, to inundate themselves with poor play. It was the same for both football and basketball.
To BOC’s and the team’s credit, they obviously picked it up from the Stanford series on (outside two blown 9th innings and the fiasco that was the final BC game in the ACCT). Here’s to hoping we make a splash hire that keeps the winning tradition and gives a new generation of fans something to reinvigorate them.
Go Hoos!
I’m guessing Walter is not going to get an interview now….

Perfect timing, he was my least favorite option out of the Kendall Rogers list
The replies to that tweet are something.
What Walter said is bad on its own but generally it speaks to questions about his judgment. Like that’s a tremendously stupid thing to do on a nationally televised game. Obviously people are going to notice and there will be blowback. I don’t want a head coach who is too dumb to put those pieces together.
Also his resume without Muscara is weak anyways.
We should hire Muscara as our next coach
Ha — I didn’t bother looking because posts from Fitts (and Manuel) are lightning rods for the Deep South college baseball fans.
