Apparently Payton Dunbar and Casey Valenti-Paea are in the portal, too. I thought Mox really mismanaged Dunbar, who I think could be a baller, this season.

There’s enough guard depth returning and in the pipeline that the Dunbar and Valenti-Paea losses aren’t too worrisome in and of themselves.
But this team needs to get better in the front court, and losing our most proven forward is moving in the wrong direction. I thought we could get away with just one center transfer inbound, but now we’ll need two starter-worthy front court transfers.

Unacceptable from Mox with the cash infusion she received and because she seems to be more of a recruiter rather than a X’s and O’s expert. Guessing next season will be the beginning of the end for her but I hope we don’t waste a cent on the buyout unless a donor wants to fund it.
Maybe just shrewd business move by the players as that cash infushion was very public etc. shit they jusg trying to get paid

Dunbar and Valenti-Paea are leaving because they’ve been recruited over, they’re chasing PT.
Lattimore has that Do Not Contact tag which tells me someone got to her already. Of note, she’s a proven mercenary. Started at Texas for a year, went to Miami for two years where she battled injuries, came to Virginia for one year where she got ample PT and finally put up impressive numbers, and now will parlay that breakout year into a payday at a heavyweight. She’s Canadian, so no real geographic ties anywhere, will just go parlay this into the best combination of $$, playing time, and chance at a Final Four.

Regardless of who transfers out or in, at the end of the day, next season is win or go home time for this staff. If we lose our front court but bring in other front court players with our new money, ok, whatever. What matters is can we make the tournament next year. If not, barring some strange special circumstances, it’s time to move on.
So I hope Mox does whatever she needs to do to assemble the roster to get it done. Would love if she kept some of the folks in the portal but at the end of the day just build a competitive team and play cleaner basketball next season. It’s time.

It’s WAY too soon to worry. Remember “Sometimes when things don’t work out, it’s an incredible stroke of luck.” Lattimore is tough. But, Noyan was too small at forward (good shooter on the outside) and was getting out rebounded badly all year. Casey VP was a great defender/ball handler but couldn’t create her own shot. Dunbar was recruited as a 3 point specialist but only shot 16 percent for 3 (on low volume) for the year. Let’s stay calm and see how this plays out.

Just to be clear for myself: I’m not worried. I have liked Mox and am hopeful they can get it done next year. I’m just saying… it’s time to get it done.
She’s rightfully been given a lot of runway given what she took over, but now she’s got her players in place and had time to implement her system. Time to make the dance.

Thanks MaineWahoo. Yes - this is the last opportunity for Coach Mox. We need a couple of athletic “bigs,” a second point guard/ball handler (feel bad about Yonta’s medical issues), and more playable depth. I know that all teams have injuries but, between this and last year, we’ve had more than the average. I agree that the measure is making The Dance! Great points that you made.
