I want more transparency from this program. I’d like Mox to speak more to player health and mysterious long-term disappearances from the bench (Yonta, Hawa, RyLee) and to the general feeling around the team three years in.
WBB is kind of a bubble, and I think it’s a combo of lack of local media interest/demand and the nature of those running it.
There’s a ton of talent available in the portal. At last count 12 of the top 25 available were bigs.
Also for comparison GT just lost 5 players to the portal and they were a tournament team on a historic run for the school. Point being in the portal era mass exodus happens
Yea for women’s plays an extra year in school is worth a lot more than a first year WNBA deal. And with a potential labor strike on the horizen Id take the extra year of income.
And not only do top college WBB players stand to make more money through NIL than their WNBA salary would be, but their expenses are probably a ton lower as a D1 scholarship athlete than as a pro
I’ll admit to a little schadenfreude over this. I like the NBA/WNBA well enough, but I like college hoops better. And the NBA has been pretty unconcerned with the impact of its decisions on college hoops in recent years. While I know this is hardly keeping the NBA up at night, its nice to see the shoe at least a little on the other foot for a change.
