I mean itās common knowledge that decades of Econ 101/other big, intro level class exams are kept in fraternity/sorority houses (and other student organizations) Iāve held them in my hands and saw examples where all Elzinga changed on particular questions were the numbers. Given the format of his exams, if he repeats or reuses even 1-2 questions and you know the answer, it makes a big difference.
Maybe my 50% claim is bold but Iām honestly not really sure it is. The grade curves just donāt make sense otherwise with so many kids getting outrageously high/near perfect grades.
I just know I felt like a sucker for not cheating in those classes and did meaningfully worse on a relative basis than how I did vs my peers in other classes at UVa.
Well, the interesting thing for me is that I have graded many Econ 201 exams, and the results indicate to me that there are an awfully lot of students who were clearly dud not cheat.
But assuming you are correct and there is widespread cheating I am not sure Ken would literally do nothing to prevent students from cheating; perhaps he simply doesnāt know. Being complicit in such dishonest behavior is not something he would doā¦I know this to be true. It says a lot more about the students than him. I guess that is why I got upset.

Couldnāt agree more. Education system needs a MAJOR revamp to match what society is all about.! More trade schools, more AI/cyber learning, and more life skills (taxes, loans, and etc)

I didnāt do great in those classes either lol, but most UVa students were just smarter than me! Theyāre not especially challenging courses, a UVa student can do very well in them without cheating.
And half of Elzinga and comm 1800 classes are taken by first semester first years who arenāt even in fraternities/sororities yet.
Respectfully, could not disagree more (although perhaps Iām misinterpreting what youāre suggesting). There is almost no evidence that the increased reliance on tech in schools has aided learning, and there is actually a lot of evidence it has hindered it. People just donāt learn as well on computers and screens as they do when doing things in person and by hand. Itās how we evolved for millions of years - we shouldnāt be shocked thatās the case.
In case itās of interest, recent testimony on this topic is below. If anything, we should be stripping tech out of schools, then adding back in designated classes about to to properly and fully use tech (think the computer classes of Mellenialsā youth). Kids should learn how to use computers/search engines/even AI, but in a structured way that teaches them how they actually work (file structure, hardware, what LLMs actually do and canāt do, etc.) rather than them learning nothing more than āclick app, app openā or āask AI, AI gives answerā.

Yep. Not to get too off-track, but I think America puts *WAAAAY* too much emphasis (and resources) into 4-year colleges. The economy simply doesnāt have enough spots for that high a % of the workforce to have 4-year degrees, and with the rise of AI the spots are probably going down. But if anything weāre going to need more electricians and HVAC folks than we do now.
Edit - Also totally agree on tech in schools. My class at Darden was the first class to spend both years in the new building, with all the student seats wired for in-class internet access. My first year, it was amazing. Students being able to make a point and then back it up with something they Googled that very minute was revolutionary. But the next year, the new first year class figured out they could use the connectivity to have mid-class Duke Nukem tournaments and it all went to hell. I understand theyāve turned a lot of it off.
Giving elementary school kids tablets and expecting them to use them productively in class rather than finding memes and fun videos is absurd. DARDEN students canāt manage that, and you expect 10 year-olds to? Plus, the kids drop and break them all the time. It dramatically increases the cost while reducing the education the kids get. The studies Iāve seen suggest the only thing it makes the kids better at is surfing the web.

I like a lot more so like top 20 ish than top 10, but definitely see the vision there, especially in the front court. A couple others, Iām just trying to think of ones we didnāt touch on. Yeah, I thought about it.
While you think about it, Iāll just say Virginia, because like you said, I think they were, I had them in Michigan in my top 10 initially, and I was like, oh, I donāt want to go with teams that is like almost exactly Bart Torekās projected top 10 defenses. And I was like, all right, Iāll try to be a little more interesting. But I do think losing Anenso hurts them more than than maybe it would show on paper, because they had 40 minutes of elite rim protection at all times.
And now I think itās going to be more like 27 of Grinlow. And I donāt know what there what there is after that. But decent wing defense.

Will is the one I often disagree with, but I am surprised Jim didnāt have us top 10 in offense or defense; I believe Will had our offense #6. I expect to be left off top 10 defenses, but I think there is a very strong argument for top 10 offense. Weāll see.
Biggest issue not having Onyenso is foul trouble for JG - will he solve it and not get 2 fouls every first half?
Good point. If they really want him to be an intimidating force on the back line, he is likely to find himself in that predicament even more unless he is schooled about what to go after and what to leave alone.
I think heāll work that out. Salt, Huff, Diakite, and Shedrick all improved year to year, and GrĆ¼nlohās PF/40 min is already much lower than those guys were in each of their FR and SO seasons. Interesting that Ugo had a much lower foul rate than any of our centers in all of his college seasons. Guy was a bit of a freak with his shot blocking and altering ability.
Iām not surprised by either ranking of offense and defense on their own, but I really think our defense will be better than offense, especially with the Anya and Adekunle additions.
Look at how much we improved over the course of the season defensively with continuity (and conversely declined on offense).

Eyeballing Kenpom, a good chunk of teams with that profile are typically one or two seeds (though there are some strange outliers). A lot to be excited about this season
