Agreed. Relatedly, I always hate the arguments too of āwe have nothing to gain from beating them and itās embarrassing if we lose to an instate team so we shouldnāt play themā. But the whole point of playing is playing games with actual stakes and emotional investment. I donāt give a shit about playing Arkansas Pine Bluff or whoever in December. Give me games against VCU, George Mason, GW, JMU, Richmond, etc. semi frequently and it makes it at least a little more fun.
Would also love to see us one day do something a little unorthodox and fun and play an away game at like Norfolk St or Hampton. Feel like itād be good prep for atmospheres later in the season and maybe build some good will throughout the state.

Apart from the fun regional (not a) rivalry aspect of it, P5 schedules have gotten very barbell-ish shaped. Teams want to play top 50ish teams and 300+ teams, in the noncon. Playing teams in that 50-125 range can be good, too.
Though to be fair, the bottom of the ACC gives us plenty of reps in the 100-125 zone.

In a field of 68 video posted to twitter, Calipari in a press interview made it sound like they were waiting to announce a non conference neutral site game vs an ACC team. Could be nothing, but it also might be us playing Arkansas. I know that was one of the teams we were rumored too. Just passing it along.
