Wasn’t there some rumor swirling a couple years back about abuse or mistreatment of players… thought something went on with O 2 years ago, but I might be totally off

If i recall theres been a couple instances of rumors popping up about that.

The sports world got to see Kymora and crew make a run but it’s not like UVa trotted out some coaching genius during the span.

Like someone said earlier, this is lowkey perfect timing. Carla has to stick the landing on a hire, but Mox was a mid coach and we weren’t going to get any better

I feel like you’re asking a lot of questions already answered by my post

We had a sweet 16 run and won’t be able to meaningfully capitalize on it AND missed out on the slam dunk alum hire

Moving on from Mox and not getting Reiss is a pretty bad beat.

Gotta really hope Kymora likes the hire now!

If our funds are as good as people report they are, aka top ten in the country, we should in theory be able to hire someone with a better resume than Tammi. Obviously she would have been a good fit given her history here and recent success but it’s also not like she was lighting the world on fire at URI outside of this past year.

Dawn commenting more “we” than “they” when referring to the job and saying “we’ll talk soon”…

Jenny Boucek would be a smart hire

Not getting my hopes up lol. Her salary at South Carolina is astronomical and I imagine her buyout is similarly massive. Also she’s a demigod there.

Buyout shouldn’t be too bad anyways. Only had one year left on her contract. Probably well under a million to make her go away.

Oh I’m not either, just interesting. Her buyout is basically whatever is left of the 25 mill extension she signed last year. Runs through 2030.

I’m guessing there was some sort of negotiated buyout for something less than the full amount, but more than 0. If it was a for cause firing, that would’ve been announced in the press release. But there was enough that Mox didn’t want her dirty laundry aired publicly.

Been a couple coaches who have gone the NBA assistant → women’s CBB head coach route: Kara Lawson, Lindsay Gottlieb (though she was a college head coach previous to her NBA stint), Niele Ivey (more of a 1 year NBA sabbatical as she was a college assistant previously)

Mox WAS good on paper and this year good in the tournament. You can’t plan for someone being abusive if that never came out before. I wouldn’t say that this Carla’s fault necessarily.

And also Tina Thompson.

I don’t think we’ll be trying that again this time.

Edit: my bad…you said NBA assistant, not WNBA assistant.

What about Aaron Roussell? He’s had really good results at U of R.

Kymora apparently liked the official announcement. Doubt she’s going anywhere.

USC fans are salivating about poaching Mo while we daydream about poaching Dawn lol. I’m of the personal belief that Staley WILL coach here someday towards the end of her career. Just not sure that’s right now.

Last time we went the UofR route, we pissed off Dawn and a bunch of the Ryan loyalists.

Pure speculation, but I can imagine a scenario where Kymora was ready to transfer to get away from Mox, and that was the final straw. Mo leaving would functionally be the end of Mox anyways (losing fans and donors, recruits seeing red flags), so might as well get out ahead of it

Smith to the portal

All of that makes sense and makes it a smart move. Save Mo give a blank check to a new quality HC and the bones of a sweet 16 roster. Makes the job very interesting for most any coach
