My favorite description of Salt was “half-man, half-concrete slab”.

at the same time, we don’t make the final four (or even the elite eight) without Kihei saving us in the Oregon game with some offense. Tony seemed to play him just about the right amount across the tournament (maybe you could argue a little less in the auburn game, but that means you’d have just wanted Ty to stay in the game with 4 fouls… it’s debatable)

Key somehow had a 7 trillion in that Oregon game. impossible to say if he’d have inspired some offense with Kihei’s minutes (he played 37, was 4-9 overall, 3-8 from three, 6 assists 2 turnovers).

Or if Braxton had been playing Kihei’s minutes all of February and March we dominate Oregon with our superior lineup. We win that game by double digits and don’t need the big shots down the stretch :man_shrugging: impossible to say. All we know is what Tony (and staff) actually did was enough to get that win and subsequently the title.

Why are we trying to doubt our own title lmao

No one is doubting our title. Just commenting on the fact that team didn’t peak in March in response to a comment about different coaching approaches to building as the season goes along.

Maybe you missed the Purdue and Texas Tech games?

Nope. Just also watched ACC play that year.

Just 50/50? I dunno. Kinda feel like “concrete slab” might be getting shortchanged here.

I’ve been sympathetic with this argument, but Key couldn’t really play much guard. I think having an extra ball handler and someone who could knock down some shots was essentially the clincher.

But on a broader view, our horrible guard recruiting was starting to show up in 18-19, already. We whiffed Marco’s year (though Marco is a competent D-1 player except the scoring parts). And everyone we whiffed on in Kihei’s year is in the NBA or is in the Nembhrad / Quinerly stratosphere.

I would like to see how we’d do against Oregon if we played more aggressively on offense. Tony started to go into a bit of a shell in that game, and only came out when Carsen Edwards forced him to. It’s possible Oregon would have snuffed it all out, or it’s possible we would have beaten them by 10 and they couldn’t have kept up offensively. Looking back at that game, it felt like we played Oregon’s game. (Beat them at their game, but still)

As long as I’m already in the wrong thread with the post above, question for @HoozGotNext or anyone who knows: what’s the right thread for Isaac/Isaac/Ryan/Leon update posts? Thx.

Edit - Aah, never mind.

Yes there is. Golden Nugget is owned by Tillman Fertitta and Houston beat us in basketball.

Well that’s the rationale for why Tony went Kihei over Braxton down the stretch and in the NCAAT. And it clearly worked out. That team was so good they were able to win the NCAAT despite only playing close to their top level for 5 of 12 halves (and 2 OTs) in the NCAAT.

Wow.

That plus the NBA news feels very March 2020. I hope not.

That’s crazy

Power mad people stay mad with whatever power is acquiesced

Another one. These short notice cancelations will hurt attendance more than worries over covid.
