I was thinking the exact same thing. They were a top 5 team at one point last yr and this yr if I recall
HGN absolutely nailed his Caleb Houston evaluation. I recall him saying he wouldnât be much of an impact college player before going pro and thatâs spot on.
We could use him right now! haha But yeah weâre probably better off with Milicic in the long run.
Whoâs the bigger fraud? Baylor or Iowa St? Iâm going with Iowa St.
Baylor plays defense like I wish we would⌠keeps guys in front but heavy pressure and generate early turnovers which generates efficient offense
I wouldnât mind a bit more half court pressure, but I mostly just miss having dudes like Baylor. We have a relatively short, relatively unathletic, and relatively poor shooting starting lineup. We placed an undersized, under-athletic, floor-bound big, at the center of our plans, and then we decided to play a defensive-minded strategy.
Even next year, and Iâm beating a dead horse here, it feels like we used to have more Thambas, Cha-chamwaâs, and Sochanâs up on our roster. I like Bondâs potential, but I still wonder if he will be able to defend bigs at the ACC level. (Basically, we need more Diakites, Keys, Atkins, Mitchells, etc.).
Yeah, our defensive system is amazing⌠when itâs being executed by amazing athletes. Watching those teams with Brogdon, Anderson, Harris, Gill, Hunter, Diakite, etc. destroy other teamsâ will to play was awesome and every bit as impressive as what Baylor or any other defensive team is doing today. We just donât have the dudes to do it right now sadly.
Lol now he complains about the defense. You are something else my man.
Well our defense is mediocre so far isnât it? Didnât think wishing we would play a bit differently on that end was far fetched?
ud think the lack of pressure would result in more rebounds but ranking 329th in team rebounds this season!
How long would it take for Kadin to go to the bench with two fouls against Zach Edey? I think heâd be sitting by the under 16 timeout
I was watching that game as well, my main takeaway was âimagine if Caffaro had the coordination that Zach Edey doesâ lol
NCST is defending terribly right now against VT. Still up, but all VT has to do is drive into the paint and the entire NCST defense collapses on the ball leaving multiple wide open three point shooters. Itâs happened a ridiculous number of possessions. Theyâve just been lucky that VT hasnât hit more so far and that theyâve managed to block a few at the rim.
The Wake annihilation of FSU is a surprise.
FSU is a little off but I figured theyâd bounce back and that Wakeâs solid record was thanks to a weak schedule. Quite impressive.
Forbes is a really good coach who got caught up in the Pearl mess. I expect Wake to be a mid-tier ACC team soon and for the foreseeable future as long as heâs there.
It seems like 12-8 could be enough to be top 4 this year. After Duke, there is just a lot of mediocrity.
Does Caleb Houstan still try to get drafted or is he our starting 3 next year?
It feels like KenPomâs prior season weighting is doing heavier lifting than normal. I mean, how exactly is Michigan the #27 team in the country even with weighting? They donât have any genuinely bad losses (though losing to Minnesota at home is close), but their 2nd best win was probably blowing out hapless Nebraska on the road.
Conversely, Wisconsin is somehow only #30? They beat Houston at a neutral site and Purdue at Purdue. Those are some pretty freaking good wins. I get that they should have won by more against some of their patsy opponents, but they still won and theyâve got additional pretty good wins like over St Maryâs at a neutral site and Indiana at home.
How is Wisconsin not ahead of #10 Kentucky, which has lost 3 of the 4 remotely difficult games theyâve played so far (and are the only 4 non-home games theyâve played)? How much mileage should a team really get from repeatedly blowing out the High Pointâs and Albanyâs of the world?
All scoring margin. Thatâs my issue with ratings like KenPom. A blowout win or two can carry more weight than consistent winning.
For Michigan, theyâre being carried by two blowouts over inferior but not bottom rung teams, Nebraska and Southern Utah.
Same for Kentucky. The UNC blowout was huge, so was beating Western Kentucky by 30+âŚ
Wisconsin is the opposite. Theyâre being dragged down by not handling business easily enough against mid-majors, close wins over Illinois State and Nicholls.
