Could have used him.
Was just a Wisconsin guy after they showed up at a couple of his AAU games early on, like for a 2024 kid this July. Never offered.
the crystal balls on 247 used to be quite different. They had more people doing it, not just 247 employees. It was a sport, sort of competitive bragging rights about who could call things before it was obvious.
He does seem a little slow footed. Love his savvy and fearlessness.
Wild how Wisconsin fans get so downtrodden when UVa offers their target.
If he stuck around, we probably donât bring Woldo in and thatâs a direct replacement. If he plays Woldo level minutes, is he coming back for a 5th year and if so, I doubt Franklin comes.
So yeah, he couldâve been helpful, but I donât think he outplays the guys who did come here.
Definitely would have taken Marco at those stats over those two players. Slight downgrade in scoring, big upgrade in threes and boards, which this team was desperately missing
Gotta get cooking. The bag men cometh.

I went looking through 24/7 Composite history of top VA recruit rankings.
If we exclude Mamadi, Tristan Spurlock is the top rated VA recruit in the last 15 years at #82 overall. VA consistently had 5-6 recruits in the Top 100 - some lean and some strong years (2006, 2012).
But Mamadi and DHall pretty much the only Top 150 VA recruits weâve got under TB.
Our in-state brand has zero pull in hoops. Maybe less than zero. Richmond/NOVA/757 send excellent players everywhere else.
We are a Wisconsin/North Carolina/Throw in a West Coast or North Eastern player here or there. Nothing wrong with that.
Wrong. Guy Ty Hunter and Huff all top 100 just to name a few. Add Anderson Jabri and the entire 2022 class.
Virginia recruits is what he was talking about
One advantage of getting in-state kids, it seems to me, would be a bit of a transfer hedge. More likely to have ties to the school, like friends, fam, etc.
Of course, my free advice to Tony, make sure every kid on the team who you want to stay either gets (1) plentiful PT, or (2) a serious significant other. Like, if you go against my advice to forget the word âredshirtâ and you decide against all reason to RS a kid? Make sure the kid is happy. He has a G/F at home? Well, there are lots of great breakup albums and lots of potential G/Fs in Cville. Simple stuff.
UVAs rep in virginia hurts it with recruiting I think
I get the rep thing a bit, but then the alternatives are just bizarre in light of the issue:
âUgh, UVa is a bunch of stuck-up guys in polo shirts and dirty bar hats [my stereotypes are from the 90s] so I am going to go to UNC.â
Sure, kid.
carolina sucks
I agree that thatâs the reality. But not a ton of virginia kids go to UNC. So everyday recruits interact with the preppy kids and then they see a bunch of them go to UVA. Thatâs not happening with UNC
I just think Tony has a specific profile and goes fishing in a national pool to get it. Itâs his strategy that causes us not to get Virginia kids, not the other way around.
yeah, but if you take a visit to UNC and spend more than 5 min on the actual campus, youâd be like âdamn, this is 100% the same demographic of all those pretty kids from my high school that are going to UVAâ.
(realizing maybe they go out of their way NOT to highlight that to some recruits? I donât really know how youâd avoid it, but i suppose there is a way to visit CH and not drive past frat court?)
i think itâs a stretch that itâs a primary factor. iâd think class size, Tonyâs preferences, and our overall pace have more to do with it. Iâm sure we could have gotten a number of other VA kids if we pressed for them, but the reality is the VA kids Tony has recently pursued have been fairly highly rated kids who end up at UNC or Duke, which is a lot more driven by their blue blood status and has little to do with the prep/fratty factor at play.
