I feel like weâre overrating the instate talent. There are a few guys over the years that got away (Bacot, McCormack,Coleman) but itâs not like the state is loaded up with 4/5 stars. DMV is itâs own beast with tons of competition so not really considering that here

Huh? Bacot, Anthony Harris, Kenny Williams, McAdoo, Kendall Marshall, Ed Davis, Capel, Curry, JR Reid. Now Nickel. Half the 757 is going to UNC football now. Theyâve been taking top recruits out of Va in football and hoops for a long time.

Whatâs the argument for prioritizing in state guys over guys from anywhere who are a combo of best talent and best fit for our system?
I never get the obsession with in state recruiting, especially in the system and culture Bennett runs, which is particular and limiting in some ways.
I mean all else equal between two recruits, sure go for in state guy for proximity. But practically, does that situation ever happen?

Now do VT. Theyâre less diverse than UVA or UNC.
Itâs been tough (no matter who has been the coach) to pull instate kids, particularly in basketball (but also f-ball which is more understandable given the train wreck of program) - itâd be nice if we had a built-in advantage for them, but it would probably take the rest of Bennettâs career to start a pipeline and the first time he offered someone from NC or Wisconsin or wherever, the whole 757/804 areas would be âsee, he doesnât prioritize kids from VA.â At this point, it is what it is - get good players who want to be at UVa regardless of the geography.

There isnât one, at least not for basketball. Only 3-4 recruits, and they all go to the same AAU events to evaluate. Football much more regional. But it would be nice to have the stateâs flagship university be so desirable that big fish in-state recruits just want to jump right in the boat.

I donât see this as a matter of prioritizing instate kids OVER someone from out of state. There seems to be a lot of good talent in Virginia that is just as good or better as what we get from out of state. As a native I would like to see some Virginia kids wearing the name on their jerseys, but Never at the expense of the good of the team.

Yea but UNC has Michael Jordan and has Duke right up the road that the can point to as the âpreppy school.â It allows UNC to portray themselves as the school for the everyday Carolinian. Itâs about perception more than the reality of the student body.

Lol stop it. U plugged in bruh⌠lol donât fake haha
âplugged inâ = annoy the ever living shit out of @HoozGotNext and then spend all my non-productive time at work reading the forums of every other basketball team. Dont think thatâs plugged in, just someone who has interesting priorities in life.

A Wisconsin fan on the UVA offer to Kaiser
âKaiser got the UVA offer last night. Is Tonyâs entire job to just go after every recruit/transfer that Gard also wants?â
Is Tony Gardâs Bill Self?

They should make life easier on themselves and become UVA fans.

Interesting that he says Tony is the lead recruiter for him, not an assistant. Probably the New Zealand connection
