2nd Spring Live Period Recap

Gross. Though he did say ‘had been’ a dream school. Past tense. UVA is his dream school now of course. I’d almost rather lose a bball recruit to VT than Maryland. If culture fit really is a big deal to him then I’m not the least bit concerned.

I’m not a professional talent evaluator either but watch TJ Power tape in comparison and see his cuts in the lane. Or Joe or Klay’s HS tape which I did out of curiosity. Some of the recruiting services mentioned lateral quickness as well as potential issue.

Dream class for me right now is Dillone, TJ Power, Gapare. Figure out the 3 in the transfer market if it’s still a need in ‘23/‘24.

Thats the thing. You are not going to get a 3 in the transfer market with the NIL bidding market. It makes high school recruiting kids who buy into our culture even more important

If a wing isn’t caught in/receiving NIL bids then that wing isn’t worth a damn anyways lol

I’d like to see some Moneyball analysis on this but give me a Top 50 transfer over any HS recruit outside the Top 50 or so.

There are still options in the transfer market. And I think there some hyperbole being thrown around to how much loyalty these guys actually have when rubber meets the road in terms of PT.

Hypothetical - if NIL exists back when, do we still land TMIII or Hauser?

Trey Murphy? No Villanova is offering solid NIL. Hauser maybe but Wisconsin NIL would be huge.

Top 50 transfers are all getting paid. We got fortunate the one we were able to add is a player whose named after the coach LOL

I dont think Tony agrees with that sentiment. There is no guarantee a transfer produces in a different system on a different team surrounded by different players. You get higher pay off with a high school player with their untapped potential, and Tony is making an effort now to find culture fits. Kaiser clearly fits everything that Tony envisions in a recruit moving forward. Tony recruited both Klay Thompson and Joe Harris out of HS and he probably sees something in Kaiser similar. As @HoozGotNext would say, Tony trusts his eyes more than anything else, regardless of HS or transfer.

If it’s a 1 to 1 choice, Power’s offensive game looks much better (from what I can tell), but I have to go back and look at HGN’s stuff .. would these guys be after that same target? I was just guessing that Kaiser was filling more like a utility 2/3 role and Power is more of a hybrid 3/4 type, with a high level offensive game. But I’m just guessing…

I mean if we are only taking one, it has to be TJ Power. If thats the question yeah but agree with Kaiser being a 2/3, and Power being a 4/3 that compliment well with Bond and Dunn in the mixing and matching.

Possibility for a lot of diverse lineups.

Hmmm well atleast Maryland isn’t in our conference anymore so I wouldn’t want to lose someone to VaTech and have to play them 2x a year…or maybe we would?

Just watched a Gapare video, and he is an AMAZING! STUD! So much upside. For 6’9 his handle and speed is LEGIT. Shot needs work, but if he came here he would have the most upside of any player that TB has coached.

I can’t say I’d be too upset losing a recruit to Maryland who’s about 30 min away from them and grew up going to games there. We’re obviously the better program right now and have been for a decade but they are certainly still a tier above a program like VT. The main reason it would be tough to swallow is that we’ve heard that UVA will be really tough to beat and just seemed like there were implications that it was kind of a done deal to some extent

I wish they would have low lite tapes. See what kinds of mistakes players make. There is such a thing as good mistakes

Fwah Grah said… (original post) I mean, I hope I’m wrong. He’s improved dramatically in the past year and would be an awesome addition. But I’d be shocked.

I know the UVA boards are saying they’re his dream school and he’s a lock, but it’s just wrong. Sorry, don’t know what to tell you. I’m not gonna nag my buddy for info and don’t care if I get scooped. I want what’s best for the family and I’m thrilled for them. Just telling you that your info is wrong. Could certainly change, but right now Wisconsin is on top.

Edit to say that I asked Jamie if I could share or keep quiet and he said “share!”

This is good. Thanks dude. Also he looks to me like he spends a lot of time with a skills trainer

Imagining my deranged Maryland super fan neighbor pestering me about my child’s upcoming college decision. Not sure I would be super inclined to tell much info, let alone any honest info.

Can someone post this or any other Gapare video? I keep hearing his tape is amazing.

We thought London was the “Bird-in-hand” but I agree.

He’s actually not the neighbor… he signed the mom up for a gym membership a long time ago and just stayed in touch with the family. Lol
