Parent doesn’t want to tip the hand of his sons decision
I’m waiting for one person to agree with you…or to raise those concerns. Obviously he’s doing some things right for CTB and company to be in on him as well as many other suitors. Really hot prospect. Hard to believe such glaring deficiencies exist.
Especially when he now knows his ‘buddy’ is spilling it all on a message board
Isn’t Wisconsin the only power conference visit he’s taken at this point? Seems kinda normal to be blown away on your first big boy visit. Wouldn’t be surprised if his dad actually does like Wisconsin the most right now. At least until he gets to see UVA, Indiana, Maryland, etc in person.
Concerning the transfer portal: The fact is, Virginia hasn’t been hurt by the transfer portal. At least, not yet. And, while I hate to see anyone transfer out of UVa, athlete or not, it isn’t always a bad thing for the program, or the player. Aside from Marial Shayok and Darius Thompson (and, maybe, Justin McKoy), Virginia hasn’t had major contributors transfer out of the program, and the immediate future for those players was a bit cloudy given the returning rosters. If a player isn’t contributing at a moderate level by their second year (of competition), it’s unlikely that they ever will achieve even that. There’s nothing wrong with their leaving to find a program where they can play a more prominent role, and it does make available another scholarship for the staff to use. Presumably, a player also knows by the end of his first year what the path to playing time looks like. I would imagine he sees himself progressing on that path, or not. I would imagine the post-season interview and assessment would only reaffirm what that player believes.
With that said, I don’t think that Coach Bennett can recruit players with the thought of a potential transfer taking place in the back of his mind. I don’t believe it deserves any consideration whatsoever. If the other boxes are ticked, i.e., playing ability, academic qualifications, fit, etc., then a chance must be taken. All recruiting is a gamble. (After the NCAA instituted one of its restrictions on recruiting contact, I remember Dean Smith remarking that it wasn’t the playing evaluations that were limited, but his ability to get to know the player personally and that was the problem. Or, words to that effect.) I don’t believe any prospect can be viewed with the idea that they might be a future transfer. At the very least, if they do transfer. it is probably because they weren’t part of the regular rotation, and weren’t likely be be in the near future. That is a minimal loss, IMO.
Just one man’s opinion on a message board. Not really looking for validation. As a fan, it would be best to be wrong!
I have fun doing my own eval - it’s definitely easy to get caught on the hype train otherwise (guilty as charged with JAR). I have no doubt though that TB is a better recruiter and evaluator than me but record shows he’s not batting 100% either!!
What does wisky offer in terms of immediate PT? The only glaring gaps we have for 23 are PG and 4/5. A wing like Jamie is going to be in the mix with Taine, Bond, Dunn, Mckneely, maybe 5th year Franklin so can’t see much opportunities year 1.
Not saying that you’re wrong. Waiting on more feedback. I hadn’t noticed lateral deficiencies in the few videos I saw but he wasn’t guarding ACC level talent
Sorry I’m late to this but calling UVa and Maryland dream schools reminded me of this:
I’m always amazed at how unaware most of these recruits are of how things work in basketball recruiting. Every one of them that sniffs this level should have a neutral advisor on how to handle the recruiting process.
Lack of player development has actually been a big deal for us the last 3 years, along with poor roster construction/management.
Players like Caffaro, Clark and to a degree Kadin have not gotten much better, all but Kadin have a ceiling to their game/talent level.
Reece has become a leader but until his jump becomes more consistent he’s a bit limited offensively (although his confidence with driving to the hole was drastically better towards the end of the season) with room to develop.
Kody was Kody.
Carson regardless of the foot injury never showed confidence or the ability to create, never-mind being a knock down shooter.
Hey @bigdumbswede here is the video-
New Zealand Prospect Breakdown: Tafara Gapare (class of 2022) scouting video - YouTube
Here’s Gapare’s HUDL page.
The first game is Northfield Mount Hermon.
His team played Perkiomen, though Dunn was out (he was out for a few games in late Jan – I always assumed with [redacted] but who knows.

(give the kid credit for not necessarily just posting the best moments.) And here was Perk’s take on the proceedings:
He looks pretty good but I only able to follow about half of that video. The lines from the other 47 sports they play on those courts were a little distracting.

So if Igor becomes a stud or an NBA player can we still say this? Not knocking you, but you can’t get a grade until the final exam. We will see. I think Igor could have been great here if we gave him a chance. He can shoot and he sat all year watching guys who couldn’t shoot. It was a mistake in my opinion- and same with Taine but he didn’t transfer so we will see. It’s why the coach’s fought so hard for igor to stay. But he wanted to play. Can’t ever be mad at that.
Pryce Sandfort interview mentions no upcoming UVA visit. No surprise but most likely an offer not headed that way. Seems like following his brother to Iowa is the safe bet.
Letting Igor go was a mistake.
Just dumb when you consider those minutes were substituted for Kody Stattmann

I think that Igor Milicic’s situation is very interesting. I have no inside knowledge so if anyone would like to correct me here, I would welcome it. I did wonder if it was more than a question of just playing time, but also a question of where and how he would be used which led to his transfer. If he wanted to stay and compete for playing time as a wing, suddenly Virginia had added Isaac McKneely, Leon Bond, & Ryan Dunn to a roster which already had Taine Murray and Armaan Franklin. And, Kihei Clark was also essentially a wing with Beekman being the primary ball handler. In the limited time we got to watch Milicic play this past winter, he didn’t seem especially well suited to playing on the front line nor did he appear to be very inclined to do so. Now, that was just my impression, and I could well be wrong there. Also, I am completely unaware of the sequence of events. Milicic entered the portal on April 1st. Vander Plas committed three weeks later. However, when did the staff begin to recruit for that position, and was Milicic aware of it?
I think we all liked Igor Milicic and wish he had stayed. However, if his intention was to be a perimeter player, then I don’t believe that there was a clear path to early playing time. Plus, I believe his defense was always going to be an issue there. And, given the youth of the roster, that situation wasn’t likely to change soon. And, did he want to play in the interior? I don’t know, so I imagine we’ll just have to wait and see what transpires in Charlotte. I am reminded of Lance Blanks situation at Virginia, though. He struggled in Coach Holland’s offensive and defensive schemes, but thrived when he went to Texas. While it was a gain for him, I am not sure it was a loss for Virginia.
Letting Igor go was a mistake.
To Charlotte?? Like really!?? Ok.
