🏀 #3 Virginia vs #10 NC State, ACCT SF, Fri, 15 Mar, 2130, ESPN/2

I guess in my mind the skill needed to make clutch FTs is so much less than the skill needed to use one or two fouls

Big oof. Tony said in yesterday’s press conference we’re saving the made free throws for when it matters. He must have been talking about when we’re in the madness!

I’m excited for the next tourney. Let’s go hoos!!

Just realized this too, that makes it so much worse

This is silly. iMac had 23. That is a dawg. Minor battled his ass off. Taine made plays. Other guys didn’t play as well, but this weak narrative is dumb.

I legit cannot compute in my mind how something that inexcusable happens from a “HOF” coach when it comes to one, having a team with a 64% free throws made rate, and two, not fouling with fouls to give up three.

We had only committed two fouls. We literally could have fouled them until the time ran out

That’s a tough one to swallow. Right guys at the line missing. Coaches failing to have them aware of the foul situation. Just stuff that can’t happen, nothing to do but shake your head over.

I thought they had played really well tonight too. Missed too many open looks but got good shots and made State earn theirs. Pretty much did everything right until they didn’t.

Yep, thats real bad. I think it’s a blanket philosophy of Tony’s. Oops

Minor was +10 for the game.

In the 13 min he was off the floor? Team was -18

Jake Grobes was -19 for the game.

I mean it’s true. We’ve been blown out a million times this year. IMac literally admitted we can’t come back if we’re down during a clip that played during the VT game. This team has been so so so soft for a while now

Except that’s not really the situation studied. We had 3 fouls to give lol.we aren’t giving up foul shots fml

I really hope Tony steps to the mic and takes blame for the non foul at the end. Alleviate some of the public backlash on the player mistakes.

Agree. Gameplan was good…execution up til end was decent. Groves’ performance was an all time dud though.

Edit: aren’t assistants supposed to help with the foul situation? We have 5 now?

If IMac was a dawg…he would of knocked down both FTs and iced the damn game

Yup I forgot about that. Definitely should have fouled

Tony doesn’t really take responsibility though…

Maybe Tony needs to call out and challenge the players. Because whatever’s been done this season hasn’t worked to get them mentally tough in crunch time.

I don’t fault Tony’s schemes coaching tonight. Personnel choices were weird at times. And the tightness/fear is a little inherent.

Tonight is where I fault our roster construction. Burns was more than abusable on the offensive end. Really poor talent shined (Rohde ofer, Dante meh, Groves and Minor not giving much, Dunn can only Dunk)

Everything else aside, all we had to do was use up some of our fouls to give and we win in regulation. Sometimes tactics have to make up for other mistakes. Huge mistake to let them have a shot. So avoidable.

It is easy to say we should have fouled. In fact, I said it about 50 posts ago. Problem is that if you aren’t careful a smart player can see it coming and throw up a timely three just as he’s fouled.
