šŸ€ #3 Virginia vs #10 NC State, ACCT SF, Fri, 15 Mar, 2130, ESPN/2

And Groves was our answer in OT?

Off-season plan:
PG: Grad Transfer PG who shoots 37% from 3
SG: McKneely
SF: 2 year transfer wing, also 35+% from 3
PF: Dunn
C: Eric Dixon

Is this unrealistic? Many will say so, but we fucking won a national championship 5 years ago…. We better be able to get good players.

Whoever transfers, transfers. I frankly don’t care.

I’m still processing.

Just brutal.

Exactly. We can play the hindsight game all day with the foul/not foul, plenty of teams have been hurt in similar fashions by either choice. But the main issue is it should’ve never gotten to that point in the first place.

Guys we weren’t winning any games in the tournament anyway. Major choke by Reece! Isaac played a good game but choked at the end too. Why the F does Ryan Dunn even think about attempting a jumper or a 3 with less that 5 minutes to go.He and Dante are prob the two worst shooters we’ve ever had besides Jack Salt within the TB era. Hey guys there is one piece of silver lining, we won’t have to hear Pat Forde call us the worst program in NCAA history again, i wish we could just burn the season and not even have to see this team again. I wish we would somehow turn down the NIT. But we’ll play and prob lose by 40 to Va Tech again.

It’s not realistic in the slightest if Tony remains as averse to NIL as he does intentionally fouling up 3

As a tangent, the story of UVA’s recent transfers: good enough to get hot and beat Boston College or Georgia Tech, nowhere near the talent level needed to compete at the top of the sport.

We won a championship five years ago for goodness sake. But we’ve got to go shopping for Oklahoma cast offs and St. Thomas dudes to fill out our roster? Undersized unathletic forwards from Ohio and East Carolina? Undersized centers who can’t score outside of three feet from the NEC? A tiny guard who can’t hit a jump shot from the worst Georgetown team in recent memory? These are the critical stop gap pieces for a supposedly championship caliber program?

Like just look at other teams at the top of the sport - they look nothing like us. They are big, and athletic, and can still shoot. We used to be like that. Now we’re just continuously the island of misfit toys.

The way we lost that game was long overdue with our free throw shooting this year. Wish it would’ve happened during the regular season though

In 2021, the team was 81.6% from the line.

Had we done that this year, we would have averaged 2.5 ppg more, and would have won tonight going away.

Still pissed.

Pissed at Beekman for going 1-4 from the line in the last 1:10 and for passing to Rohde. Pissed at McKneely for failing to put away a meaningful game in March — again. Pissed at Dunn for fouling Morsell and for the turnover that resulted in a Morsell breakaway dunk and for putting up a stupid three in OT. Pissed at the refs for allowing Burns to get away with murder all game. Pissed at Bennett for not calling a TO or telling his guys to foul. Pissed at all the bank shots tonight. Pissed at Morsell for being terrible at basketball in Cville. Pissed at Keats for being whinier than Shedrick. And even more pissed that we have to wait out a fate we could have sealed tonight.

Grad transfer PG isn’t happening unless Dante transfers, and honestly why would he. He’s got a legit chance at being a starter for a P5 team next year.

I think that’s why Im hopeful of the arms race NIL we have entered. We can go back to getting the caliber of transfers we were getting.

On the plus side we played Dante and Blake 0 2nd half minutes

I know I’m full of shit when I say I won’t watch. But Dante Harris, Andrew Rohde, and Blake Buchanan starting next year might push me over the edge.

Trying not to overreact because if that 3 spun out and I’d posting about how gritty the team is but I’ve been concerned about next year and the future for a long time. Can you imagine playing tonight without Reece? That’s what next season is.

We pretty much have to max out what we’re capable of in NIL or bubble team will be our ceiling. The talent simply isn’t there anymore.

Blake played a little. Beekman drove and tried to dish to him early in the half but it resulted in a turnover.

Man this one in particular really got me upset lol. I was completely checked out for the entirety of OT, couldn’t have gave less of a shit if we won or lost. That hasn’t happened in a while.

Still gotta pass guys through admissions. That will remain a hurdle and limit who we can/can’t get.

Not even hyperbole or exaggeration, I will not watch the season opener if either Dante or Rohde are in the starting lineup. And if both are in the rotation heavy I might even consider going the casual fan approach like some in my group chat are and check in once in a while. Watching them and Dunn’s lack of an offensive skillset outside dunks has killed a lot of my love for college basketball more than NIL and the portal.

LOL sorry that was intense, maybe a little too negative.

The fact that we went out and signed Dante Harris mid-season last year instead of waiting until the offseason to see what was available in the transfer portal still blows my mind. He put up truly awful shooting percentages on a terrible Georgetown team and is tiny. But our coaching staff was like ā€œMy god, we could potentially maybe be down to one PG next season - LOCK HIM UP!ā€. Like if you just waited until the end of the season you couldn’t have found anyone shooting half decently from anywhere else in all of college basketball if you had minutes to sell as the back-up PG on this team? Just ridiculous.

Id argue Gertrude with an off season and bliss are pretty talented but yeah unproven for sure/definitely not a sure thing to hedge on.
