As far as I can find, he will be the first player to play at 3 schools in the same conference. Unless there’s another transfer this year in the same boat.

That’s probably industry standard sadly. Not great money to be made in those jobs

I looked at a job in UVa’s athletic department a couple months ago where the title sounded pretty nice and the salary was shockingly low. No money til you’re at the top really. Kind of a shame.

I thought there have been others but might be misrembering/could be wrong.

At any rate, Dai Dai will likely be at a different ACC school next season, so he’ll match it

I wonder if they get applicants at a premium as it’s “cool.” People will take a little less for the sexiness of getting to work for / around for a major college athletics program.

Is exactly this. The Real Minimum Wage is zero innit

I literally just sent a friend of mine the assistant director of marketing job posting for UVA. It’s not any better than the bass tech social posting.

When you’re paying millions to coaching staffs, administrators, and now student-athletes, you’ve gotta cut corners somewhere. Tons of turnover and churn in all these athletic departments and that’s a big reason why.

That’s a terrible use f $14 million

Has UNC fallen down to the “I hope we make the NCAA Tournament” level that we have been stuck in for the last 5 years? I hope so. It’s a shitty place to be and not worthy of the two programs. Not a UNC fan, but hoping both get back to “The Dance” every year for a long time. It makes college basketball better.

I hope they make the tournament so they keep Hubert. I want him there instead of someone better

Does Duke Miles count?

I see I am late, but:

1. Tar Heels reportedly have a $14 million roster

On Monday’s offseason After Dark show, Jeff Goodman and Rob Dauster discussed the biggest winners and losers of the offseason. Among the losers? Hubert Davis and North Carolina.
The Tar Heels brought in five respectable additions but none that Dauster thought were UNC-caliber players:

  • Big man Henri Veesaar (Arizona)
  • Guard Jaydon Young (Virginia Tech)
  • Forward Jarin Stevenson (Alabama)
  • Guard Jonathan Powell (West Virginia)
  • Guard Kyan Evans (Colorado State)
Returning for UNC will be guard Seth Trimble and big man James Brown, along with bench players Russell Hawkins, Dante Mayo Jr. and John Holbrook. The freshman additions include international prospect Luka Bogavac, 5-star forward Caleb Wilson and 4-star guards Derek Dixon and Isaiah Denis. This roster isn’t necessarily screaming a team capable of cutting down nets.
Well… what if I told you that roster is worth $14 million? A report from Inside Carolina on Tuesday says that’s the case.
“Multiple sources have confirmed that UNC has surpassed the $14 million mark in its financial commitment to the 2025-26 roster, approximately triple what was spent on the roster a year ago,” the report said.
With the roster at 14 players, it’s hard to imagine any other pieces getting added to the puzzle. We’ll have to wait and see if UNC’s big spending was worth it. Because right now, it seems like a bit much for a fringe top-25 roster.

I’ll be honest, that’s a good team but I think I like ours better for $14m (pending De Ridder), and I’ll take our coach for now too. Bogavac is the wildcard there, obviously don’t know a ton about him, and if he hits they probably turn out pretty good, but I’d expect more proven studs for that payroll.

Torvik and Hoop Explorer have them around 20th (once you correct their returners in each system) without factoring in Bogavac. But that does seem dependent on:

  1. Evans translating well from Colorado State
  2. Trimble taking another little step forward
  3. Caleb Wilson being good right away

Would agree that Bogavac being starter-quality would be really big for them. They don’t have a proven quality 3rd perimeter player yet, so they are hoping for 1-2 of Bogavac/Dixon/Denis/Young/J. Powell to hit. I am skeptical about Young and J. Powell being at the level they need this season, and Dixon and Denis are freshmen, so there’s uncertainty there too.

What’s the latest mapping of our payroll?

Thomas - $3M
Grünloh -$2.5M
De Ridder - $2.5M
Hall, White, Lewis, Tillis, Onyenso all at ~$1.5M
Carrere, Gertrude, Barksdale not much.
Mallory’s number could be relevant but not sure if it’s part of the actual budget or not as I think it’s more traditional NIL not pay for play.

If any of that is remotely true I think we’re possibly north of $15M with De Ridder.
