šŸ€ ACC Basketball- 2025 offseason

I’ll bet on the ACC having a better rating than whatever PAC-MW combo exists this year. The lull is turning around imo

Although maybe don’t want to tie myself to the BCs of the world that aren’t really trying

If UNC snuck in with last year’s team, I don’t see how they make it with this roster unless someone seriously surprises. Good pieces, no stars. Who makes things easy?

I liken Dixon to RJ but he’s a freshman. Evans improves shooting at PG over Cadeau but not near the playmaker. Veesar is a step up from Washington. Jarin is…? And Trimble remains steady but without a Cadeau or RJ to get him looks. Wilson could be awesome but man I think that’s still a tough roster if you’re UNC

On paper at least I see a team full of 2nd options on offense. No real star player unless Trimble makes a jump or Wilson ends up being big time.

Trimble played his best basketball when RJ Davis was out/hobbled. 35 in the memphis exhibition and some big games vs good opponents. Disappeared as he was pushed to heavy bench/stand in the corner mode

He will … and Wilson is a stud … Dixon will be good quickly

They will be freed from the shackles of Davis getting so many shots as a 5-11 unathletic dude - really bogged down their offense as Cadeau wasn’t even guarded most of the time.
Trimble with Dixon is a better fitting backcourt.
Unless Dixon gets the yips he can flat out shoot the ball.
Veesar and Wilson will get 25 a game combined

There’s nothing to talk about so I don’t feel bad sharing this (especially with what is preceding it - BARF!) Interesting comparison of VT’s roster (if they land Neoklis Avdalis) to the team that won the ACC championship. I don’t even know where to begin with how absurdly recency biased this is…

Thought this was a fun comparison. Not sure if we’re worse at all but one position but that ACC Champ team was sneaky talented.

Aluma > Hansberry (could be close but Aluma’s versatility wins out - taller too)

Mutts >/= Tobi (I give the athletic edge to Tobi but Mutts was a savvy player and athletic as well. Tobi could be better if he keeps improving though)

Alleyne <<< Avdalas (obviously the biggest improvement if it happens)

Cattoor >> Schutt (Schutt hasn’t shown nearly the shooting of Cattoor except in flashes - need him to improve there)

Murphy < Pasha (Murphy struggled that year til the tournament. I’ll take Pasha’s size and upside over Murphy’s experience)

Maddox > Bedford (could end up being a wash but I’ll give the edge to Maddox for now)

N’Guessan = Johnson (very different players obviously but I think Johnson could end up being better)

Pedulla < Hammond (I’d take sophomore Hammond over freshman Pedulla but obviously Sean turned it up as a sophomore)

Kidd/Ojiako <<< Dorn (I’d expect a lot more production out of Dorn next season than we got that year from Kidd/Ojiako. In fact I’m higher in Gurdak contributing early than either of those two)

In all I’d give the edge to that ACC champ roster but I think it’s closer than you think. And if Neo is who we think he could be, then he has the ability to elevate everyone else around him and possibly give the edge to next years team by the end of the season.

Obviously it’s not even close without Neo though

Wasn’t that VT champ roster pretty bubbly at best? Like says it’s equivalent isn’t really a compliment

The metrics loved them all year. Then they got hot at the right time but some of that was regression to the mean (they lost a lot of close games earlier in the season)

If I remember correctly, based on where they were seeded, if they did not win the ACC, they weren’t getting in.

I lump Mike Young’s ACCT trophy in with Kevin Keatts’ and Josh Pastners’. I’m not saying it’s not a nice piece of hardware fairly won (though of course in GT’s case UVA had been DQ’ed with COVID). But it was still a bid-stealing fluke. As such, VT fans using the term ā€œACC Champā€ is technically accurate but still laughable.

That was such a wild year. UNC, coached by Hubert Davis, was up by 15 at halftime in the national championship game

Looks like VPI was an 11 seed, which does seem to suggest they’d have been out without winning the ACC-T (or at least very much on the bubble)

  1. Wyoming (25-8)
  2. Rutgers (18-13)
  3. Indiana (20-13)
  4. Virginia Tech (23-12)
  5. Notre Dame (22-10)

The other 4 schools were in the 1st 4.

NIT 1 seeds were TAMU, Dayton, Oklahoma and SMU, so quite possibly VT winning the ACC bumped Buzz out of the NCAAT.

Sort of looks like he cut a a bit of bulk
