I don’t mind them popping up and being among the top teams every so often (like in the odd 20-21 year), but I’m starting to think that was a flash in the pan.
Same. I want all teams not named duke, unc, louisville and VT to be great but not as great as UVA.
Yep I’m good with that which is why I chose Mid instead of trash. I like the run they had a few years ago, and I just don’t want to see them sitting in the top 4 on a regular basis and become a team I have to worry about year in and year out. If that’s the case, all of Pastners quirky charm becomes asshole annoyances.
I’ve always suspected Coach Krzyzewski was the elder ugly Kardashian sister who underwent a sex change operation.
The video…
“The ceiling is the roof.”
Scares me that Pastner thinks like Fresh
It actually makes perfect sense … the Heels are more concerned with performance in March than ACC reg season …Historically under Bennett - the Hoos have been better in the reg season than in march … so Pastner is just relating facts.
Yes. As you have always said. Agree.
Edit: i also really like this team for the big tourney this year
I think Pastner and Capel (Maybe others?) who convinced Gary Parrish to put the Hoos in the top 25 (and 1).
You always talk about making the second game of the second weekend. We’ve done that twice since 2014. UNC has done it three times. Those are also facts.
Josh Pastner, teach me how to not be depressed
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Carolina has been to two NCAA finals and won a championship since 2014, while UVA has a S16, E8, and NC finish in the same time period. Though UNC also finished 1st in the ACC regular season 3 times (as compared to UVA’s 5); so they aren’t too shabby in that department either.
This is a great deal on tickets.
For a total of $316, I got two “prime” tickets to UNC, Houston and UMD Eastern Shore.
My guess is it came more from the elder statesmen of the league. Guys that media members respect like Boeheim, Hamilton, and Brey.
Talking Tech in the other thread got me excited about breaking down ACC hoops. Going to be a fun conference year with a number of teams expected to improve.
How do you guys see the top 5 shaking out this year?
I’m seeing 1) UVA 2) UNC 3) Miami 4) Duke 5) FSU – beyond that I think VT is 6 and ND 7
I’ll take both ND and VT over FSU; FSU was pretty bad last year, .500 conference record was more flattering to them than the per-possession performance numbers would suggest, and they lost their transfer big to injury already. I think after the top six of UVA-UNC-Duke-Miami-VT-ND (in some order), you could draw 7-through-12 out of a hat and basically be as likely to be right as any thoughtful prediction, as long as you exclude Pitt from the hat.
FSU lotta injuries last year right? (Or an excuse maybe) Thought I saw one of their main guys is out this year as well injured
My take (omitting UVa - I’m bad at predictions in general, but terrible when I have an emotional stake):
- UNC
- Duke
- FSU
- Miami
- ND
- VPI
- (maybe breaking into the above group …) NC State
- Meh for the rest… (but I like BC to get better in the out years)
FSU lost Jaylan Gainey, an Ivy transfer (Brown) who was supposed to help on D. It’s not ideal, but not killer.
UNC is the obvious #1 pick, unless you wear a face shield. Duke sorta depends on Whitehead coming back and being effective. Miami takes a step back from last year, but still very good guards. ND should be similar, I think. VPI not as good, but still top half / tourney team.
FSU case: three guys with NBA first round upside: Warley, Cleveland, and Baba Miller. Maybe even lottery. Two of whom now have a year playing. Frosh–> Soph jumps always the biggest. Ironically, the bigs might be an issue.
I’m in general agreement except I think UNC is getting the benefit of recency bias. At times last year they weren’t very good and I’m not sold on Hubert as an in game coach. Duke will be very good and is probably underrated (Scheyer will pick up K’s mantle that the world disrespects the Devils). I think FSU will be very tough and Miami’s step back won’t be much, if any. I really like ND as Brey seems re-engaged. Louisville won’t contend for a top 6 spot, but I think Payne will fix the chemistry issues and the YUM center will be rocking. I just don’t think VT is a top 7 team. Aluma was just so vital to their success. Maybe they’ll have some lights out shooting on a consistent basis, but that’s tough to sustain and the league has tons of tape/experiencs on Young and current players. Probably my bias, but they just aren’t big or athletic.
