I think Nova and Arkansas are a little bit of a cautionary tale about going all-in on the portal for a sizeable chunk of your roster.

Agree the all in mentality has proven about as successful as the all in 1 n done rosters.
It still requires a mix of cohesive talent and then adding the right pieces from the portal. It’s impossible to play the game and not use the portal but it’s not smart to allow it to replace recruiting and development

I wonder if Donovan Freeman would consider a decommitment from Syracuse and starting for UVA at the 4 for his 1-2 years in college. But I doubt these Washington DC kids care about UVA at all.

I saw this on the Syracuse board and got super triggered
“Maliq Brown scored 26 against Duke. He’s a bit better than Mark Mitchell and would have the 2nd best PER on their team. This place criminally underrates him.”

Maliq ranks 7th on their team in usage rate, yet far and away boasts the team’s best ORtg in ACC play, 123.6 which is 9th best in the league (JJ Starling is their only other player with an ORtg over 100 in conference play). 5th in the ACC in eFG%, 14th in OR% and 14th in DR%, 28th in block rate and 11th in steal percentage. Guy is legit and only a sophomore.

He’s also up there with Reece and Dunn in the defensive categories. Like it’s Reece Dunn and then Brown and then literally everyone else.
He’s also a whole year younger than Dunn. And he started shooting some threes this year. Made he can hang out with Mamadi and pull that 3pt shooting barrage out of his bag.
5th year Reece, Mckneely, one of Bliss Gertrude or Rohde (with Gertrude and Rohde having their first spring through summer offseason working with Tony), Maliq Brown, Blake Buchanan with a Leon, the other two guards, and TJ Power bench. And Robinson getting spot minutes.
