🏀 ACC Basketball Offseason 2024

Well, this year and next year year. After that, we’ll see.

I mean, they’re generally good.

Really do think this season is Larranaga’s last hurrah.

Pack and Cleveland return for their last season of eligibility, and they brought in five senior / grad transfers who were double-digit scorers at their last school, so that’s seven guys likely in their rotation who won’t be on next year’s team. 5-star Jalil Bethea is pegged as a one-and-done as well.

Meaning right now they’re projected to bring back or bring in the following for next season:

  • JR F Paul Djobet - 10 mpg, 2 ppg last year, 247’s #238 2023 recruit
  • SO SG Austin Swartz - 247’s #65 2024 recruit
  • SO F Isaiah Johnson-Arigu - 247’s #145 2024 recruit
  • SO G Divine Oguchukwu - 247’s #249 2024 recruit
  • FR SG Matthew Able - 247’s #39 2025 recruit
  • FR C Ben Ahmed - 247’s #78 2025 recruit

TBD how many of those current incoming freshmen not named Bethea crack the rotation enough to become confident contributors in '25-26. Otherwise it’s a thin, young, mixed bag of a group that’s going to need yet another massive infusion of transfer bodies to be competitive. How much longer does Larranaga want to keep rebuilding his team from scratch every offseason, especially with the pool of COVID-season-eligible players drying up?

I see that list of underclassmen and see a bunch of portal targets lol

And that’s the thing, they’ve been losing a lot of young talent to the Portal last few years already, it’ll be interesting next year. Maybe all those guys see a ton of PT awaiting them and stay, maybe they don’t want to go through growing pains with a young, turbulent roster and bail. Maybe Able or Ahmed end up decommitting. All these things definitely happen if Larranaga ends up retiring.

That… is super disturbing… super.

Sam V’s first 2025 mock draft. First round is the same guys from the podcast (I posted the other day) but in a slightly different order, but some interesting names in the 2nd round. If I get a chance later, I’ll type them out

Need a chant “BO-DY PART” whenever Kon touches the ball in JPJ.

Sam’s got Duke’s entire likely starting lineup in his mock draft. Three frosh in Rd1, and two upperclassmen guards in Rd2

UNC has three guys in here, but all are first year in the program and none of them are their likely All American

Oh, one more. I keep forgetting about Donnie Freeman, from Cuse, who Sam has going #12

Wasn’t Proctor like a top 10 pick in these mock drafts a year ago at this time.

Yeah, lottery for sure. Didn’t live up to the hype but he’s still a big skilled PG, who now has some experience

Is it too early to start the 2024-2025 in season transfer portal wishlist thread?

Given that I’m pretty sure TJ Power was one of the first names you floated on last season’s thread, sounds good to me.

Looking back at our previous offers/recruiting battles I genuinely don’t know who would even be a potential target out of that group. Cameron Carr? Tyrell Ward?

My super early, zero nuance prediction is we end up taking an athletic, high production mid major wing. We’ll be able to focus all our NIL resources and lock in on one of those sought after guys.
