šŸ€ ACC Basketball Offseason 2024

Nah, not worth it.

But this is for you.

ā€œCHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2023-24 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Championship, following a vote of a select media panel. Ranked No. 2 nationally in the preseason Associated Press poll, the Blue Devils are the preseason ACC favorites for the eighth time in the last 11 seasons.ā€

If you take that literally, they’re voting on which team will win the ACC tourney. But that doesn’t make any sense, so most tend to assume they’re voting on regular season finish, but that would require voters to be looking at schedules, and I know they’re not doing that.

Which is why I still think what they’re really doing is voting generally on who they think will be good, generally speaking (until I can get my unofficial WAB poll off the ground )

Honestly i’m shocked they picked us 5th but at the same time tony bennett is the coach , i don’t think it will shock anyone if we find a way to finish top 4

Picking us to finish 5th in the conference with zero preseason All-ACC selections is the media basically going ā€œIdk how tf he’s gonna do it but I trust Tony to figure this shit outā€.

Don’t blame them tbh.

My nits to pick are that they identified the 3rd best Pitt player and that Ndongo is a bit overrated (maybe the media is baking in a lot of improvement).

Mostly fair IMO - I think I’m higher on Lville, ND, and SMU than the ACC media.

Also, do people forget that PJ Hall is gone at Clemson? Do they realize Cade ended up at UNC and not Clemson? Clemson is solid. But top 4? Don’t see it

What’s the line from Men In Black…A person is smart. People are dumb, dangerous animals. It’s kinda like that with media polls. Individually, some are really informed with worthwhile opinions of their own. Average them together, you get bland results.

I think that’s the point though…not to predict anything, just give the consensus expectations from people who at least can name most of the key players.

I appreciate the one Pac 12 writer who’s just not ready to let it go yet.

Despite the score, Memphis looks real disjointed so far. UNC looks like they have a ton of talent but a little erratic. Some nice sets tho.

I’m saying there’s no way Nijel Pack finishes first team All-ACC. Hasn’t been on any all-conference team since getting to Miami. Also, if Pitt is good, I have a feeling Jaland Lowe will be represented not Leggett.

Agree, I think that Clemson is low ceiling / low variance. I’d be surprised if they are top 4 / surprised if they are below 8.

Teams like Pitt, Louisville, SMU, Cuse (?), and NC State are high ceiling / high variance. I think Duke, UNC, and probably Wake will be top 4. That leaves probably one team. I just think it’s highly likely that one of those high variance teams (or us) finishes above Clemson. But the problem with that is you can’t vote ā€œnot Clemsonā€.

Raynaud isn’t a horrible pick, very good player but I have no idea who Jeremiah Wilkinson is lol. Am guessing he’s supposed to be a starter for Cal? 247 had him listed as a three star.

Well, typed this too fast.

Is this on now? ESPNU?

Yeah!

Yeah it’s happening rn.

UNC without RJ Davis looks extremely mediocre. He’ll make a big difference though obviously.

HAve watched for a couple minutes.

  • Washington hanging okay vs Dainja?
  • One brief up and down the court that was bad memories of our game last year
  • That long lanky rookie for UNC (Powell?) looks like he could be really good, but right now, he’s not there yet

Feels like both teams have already taken 20 3’s apiece.

Cade Tyson 0-4 from 3. Bust. Belmont D2 talent. Power clears
