MYâs best bet is to go young as often as possible. Make a run at a good team in 2025-2026. And hope you can retain them.

Naw. Heâll scrape out a .500 record with a few big ACC wins. Thatâs enough to satiate the Tech fanbase this season. If they are bad next year, then yeah, def on the hot seat.

They have mortgaged their basketball team to pay for football. Their NIL operation for basketball is essentially non-existent now, none of this is MYâs fault but he may get scapegoated for it. I honestly think theyâve done him pretty dirty.

Plus Whit knows he isnât getting anyone better. The way they gutted the hoops resources, to include NIL as well as seemingly putting a planned major overhaul of Cassell on the shelf, no top coach wants to come there just to not have the resources to be competitive.

Itâs a terrible position for any coach to be in, but if they care so little, institutionally, about the basketball team, then it seems like finding a new coach may not be worth the added time and expense for them? Or maybe the just complete the gutting and hire the cheapest guy that they can find.

For the record, I donât think theyâll fire him. Heâs from the area and really well liked, but Whit is not a very good AD imo, so who knows.

Selling out the rest of the athletic department for a 4-3 football team. They may finish strong but is 8-4 worth it? Absolutely not, especially with all theyâre set to lose from the 2-deep.
Just doesnât make a lot of sense given how solid their basketball and other programs have been lately. But hey, football is king in blacksburg, even though theyâre now just an average to below average program.
