ACC Basketball Thread 11/23

Only 24 undefeated teams remaining, and Miami and Clemson are still in the mix (the only 2 teams from the ACC without a loss). On Tuesday, Miami plays at Kentucky, Clemson plays at Alabama.

If I were to bet, I would take a split.

Alabama weaker than expected, but playing at home…I think Clemson pulls it out.

Kentucky better than many expected – at least for November-- and Miami hasn’t really played anybody, but weaker – again for November – so Kentucky wins.

I could be wildly incorrect because – as Haney said – we don’t know a lot at this point in the season.

I know Duke isn’t undefeated, but don’t they have Arkansas? Because Arkansas is not good, Duke got the best draw of the top ACC teams, and Duke will win easily.

Now that I think about it, I think I am judging Alabama too harshly, and Clemson hasn’t played anyone. I confess I am completely unsure who will win, but will be a goid barometer for each team.

Playing sparingly?? He’s playing 19 minutes a game including 19 minutes a game vs the 3 Power 6 teams.
I’m happy he’s getting a chance to be a regular part of a rotation for a team that values him. I have no opinion whether he could do the same here? He likely would be getting at least 15 minutes a game and we wouldn’t have Minor on the roster. I’d prefer a limited 7-1 guy over a limited 6-8 guy.

Edit - looked it up - 6th on team in minutes and 1st in assists and 2nd in rebounds.

Honestly have no clue why you are going at me about this. It is my *opinion *that he would not be getting what he wanted with us. Everything else is hypothetical. I am in no way disparaging him or his skill, and I hope he continues to have a good season with Santa Clara. Would I take him over Minor? At this point, yep. Is Papi a sunk cost? Also yep.

If I recall correctly this discussion was in the context of whether how Tony used him vs. how he is performing now will hurt us recruuting 5s in the future. I don’t think Papi matters in this regard.

You’re right – like all our transfers – he wasn’t valued. Tony sucks. The coaching staff sucks. The fanbase sucks. We all suck except for the people who leave saying the program sucks.

Didn’t disagree with what his role would be at UVA. And I believe any 5 man who wants a relatively large offensive role should look elsewhere than a Tony Bennett team … one of my weaknesses I guess is feeling the need to correct an incorrect, non-subjective statement (playing sparingly)…. Could have just as easily passed by

One the one hand I would defend myself regarding the “sparingly” comment by noting that when I looked at the box score on ESPN yesterday it had not listed the minutes yet…not sure why; seeing him come off the bench with no points led me to believe he was being used sparingly. One the other hand I obviously should have checked the other games; my bad…I was lazy. He isn’t scoring much but is rebounding; could use that right now!

I get your point. I would 100% swap him for Minor; no question. What a colossal mistake!

Entering the challenge the next two days the Pac12 has a KenPom conference rating of 12.32. The ACC is at 10.84. Wonder how well the ACC would need to do to close that gap?

The key for the ACC in terms of rankings is to avoid blowout losses this week. The SEC will probably be favored in 8 of 14 games. And the bigger spreads are in their favor. The ACC could easily win or break even in the challenge but still take a hit as a whole.

I think 1.5 points is huge to the point of being insurmountable. Like maybe the ACC would collectively have to outperform MOV expectations by 100 points? 200 points? I’m just spitballing wildly, if that’s not already obvious. But from eyeballing it from time to time, it seems like a “really good day” for the conference doesn’t move the needle much.

ND is going to be a problem when they get players.

Duke - Arkansas?

Thought I had forgot one. Thanks.

I was trying to remember who this Nait George freshman is who’s giving a nice lift to GA Tech. Led to reading this 247 recruiting story. Malcolm, what you doing here man? haha

George committed following an official visit to Atlanta last weekend, where he saw the “beautiful” campus and facility, did a photoshoot and met the coaching staff. His favorite part of the visit was seeing Malcolm Brogdon , a former Damon Stoudamire player with the Celtics, and former Georgia Tech guard Josh Okogie , both of whom were working out and pitched the experience at Georgia Tech.
