Cristobal is as good of a program and culture builder as there is, incredible recruiter who has built the program in a really smart, sustainable way and gotten them to a place of complete competence in just about every area. Good coordinator hires, NIL backing has been solidified and seems to be run professionally.
I just donāt know who I have less faith in in big moments, him or Carson Beck.
Lol thatās very similar to my feeling about Miami. They pass the eye test 100%. A coach who knows football is good at football and excellent in building culture and absolutely drips Miami culture. Big physical team in the trenches with a front 4 that moves people. Athleticism in the skill positions on offense. An Oline that is nasty and loves to punish. A QB who has been around since the Welsh era. ā¦
But I still get the yips when Cristobal is calling the shots on a close game in the 2nd half. I am slowly buying the idea that Beck was legit hurt last season and the elbow surgery has allowed him to get his arm back and functioning. Then he goes out dates a Cavinder twin, cheats on her, and has his Labo stolen from his driveway, and thatās just his summer vacation.
There may not be a higher ceiling lower floor combo than Cristobol and Beck and because of that Iām remain in āoh this game will prove to me theyāre legitā mode.
They just lost their top rated HS commit too as expected. Surprised we arenāt seeing a larger group of transfers from their current teal although that can definitely still be coming.
Maybe their NIL deals are structured in a way to keep them around? Or theyāre going to have a lot of āinjuriesā that preserve their redshirts while also preserving their NIL payments?
Thatās like a Penn State level of performance under James Franklin. Personally, Iād be thrilled with that, but itās a tough spot to be consistently in the top 10-15 teams every year, but never top 5 and not able to break through.
The only thing is I think modern Miamiās ceiling is higher than modern Penn Stateās. Good chance Franklin has them at their 2025 ceiling, not sure about Mario.
The talent in āthe state of Miamiā is just so good that they really should have a top 10ish class every year. Canāt say that about central PA.
guys Iām not scared of them hiring because no shot: Sumrall, Golesh, Beamer, Schumann, anyone thatās spoken to an SEC AD in the last 6 months
guys Iām scared of them actually hiring: Monken, Chesney, Mullen, Chadwell, Candle, Helton (heās the one I keep seeing on Tech lists that surprises me a bit. I think heās a more serious candidate that we think and could do well there)
Guys Iād welcome them hiring: any of these coordinators (they could work but I donāt think they can afford to take the risk right now), GRUDEN, Fitzgerald (donāt see the fit, but he is competent), Clawson
Also can we talk about the grade inflation here?? Lots of Bs. Although rumor has it that they are going to get serious about AD funding (but Iāll believe it when I see it. Not sure where the money comes from. Tech has a history of talking and not delivering, and not just on the football field. Still waiting on that ROA expansion so they can become a āsuper universityā)
Wolves are far too favorable comparison for VT. We want a former EPL team thatās been relegated, but still clinging to the glory years while thereās a tire fire in the management suite. Theyāre clearly akin to Sheffield Wednesday.
