ACCT Final: Duke vs UVA thread (8:30pm Saturday)

Franklin and Kihei were a combined 6 turnovers and 8 pts from the field. Start Imac.

The producer told the cameraman to stick with it because they were so effusive, is my guess. I’m tempted to say several cynical things, but I think that basically explains it. Relatively young parents just super excited for their son

I was thinking about that too. 5 points on lucky bounces is kinda big in a game that was usually a 7 to 11 point margin.

I wish we hadn’t fouled and lost by 4 or 6 but most important it appears that we survived without any injuries if Reece is OK. Our guards must be really tired after all those minutes.

If somehow this team gets Greensboro, they should just stay down there and practice all week in the arena. The lack of 3 point shooting is going to be the end of this team. Especially against a team with length like Duke.

Honestly yeah. Scored 32 in the second half. iMac hit some big shots, and we should have run plays for him much earlier. KC was ass, but Reece was more aggressive. Could have been blown out. If KC hit that transition 3 who knows? (Rather AF or iMac have taken it)

Also I’ve sworn off Kihei hate so I’ll just casually acknowledge that today was not his best shooting performance and say that there may or may not be a pattern of him shooting poorly/getting targeted on defense in postseason games now.

Duke wasn’t laughing when BVP made Flip his bitch and added 13 points on the other end.

That really sucked. Played better in the 2H though. Just couldn’t hit a shot to save our lives. On to the NCAA Tournament. This Duke team is damn good. Got a share of the regular season title last week. Make the S16 and this season is a great success, considering this was a team made up of largely of the same guys on the NIT team last year.

We are a good team with ok talent…we win 2 games in the tournament…it’s a good year…duke is just an significantly more talented team…they may go to the ff…let’s not lie to ourselves…they are better…

I’m more upset that Duke won than I am disappointed that we lost. Although I’m plenty disappointed.

There’s going to be a lot of focus on the shooting, but I think the turnovers hurt us the most. I think their size bothered us, and that caused both the poor shooting and turnovers.

But, big picture: Before the season, I projected we’d compete for the conference title, get a double-bye and at least make the semis of the ACC Tournament, finish the year in the Top 20 and get a No. 5 seed or better in the NCAAs. So far, the team has exceeded those expectations. My other projection was that we’d make the Sweet Sixteen. Hopefully, the team will exceed that, too.

On to the NCAAs!

What other teams would we even face with length like Duke? Duke had one of the most insane recruiting classes ever and has platoons of NBA caliber athletes

Tonight really showed the difference in talent. Dunn is very athletic and long, but he is light years away from the Duke frosh in terms of pure talent and offensive ability.

Scheyer with a good game plan. They didn’t try to run or speed us up. They slowed their sets and beat us at our own game. Absolutely terrible execution in the 1H that was exacerbated by Reece tweaking his hammy again.

Afraid this teams ceiling is S16 with the FT and 3PT issues. Unfortunate that the Baylor IL shooting was an aberration.

Yep I agree…but it’s ok …we win two it’s a damn good season…

As long as we don’t run into a team that had this kind of talent, I am feeling good about our NCAA chances

lol, sad state of affairs - our fan base sometimes. winning two is a “damn good season”? lol are you insane? Yea maybe if we were clemson and sneaked into the dance.

Starting backcourt was 8-28 (2-12 from 3) with 10 turnovers — many of them live ball that led to runouts.

Need to play better next weekend.

I don’t think the 3pt shooting was just a Baylor/Illinois mirage. Without looking it up I think all of our guards were still close to 40% through the end of January. But then it went away and never came back.
