No sense in beating ourselves up over what didn’t happen. I saw a Hoos defense that suffocated a Duke offense that had been on a tear the last 3 weeks.
Defense travels not many teams are gonna trot out multiple 7footers and a backcourt like that.
Seeing the Hoos fight to very end felt good. They didn’t shy away even when nothing was working. That attitude that culture will serve them well next week.
In the cold light of a new day I’m more irritated by this loss than I was last night. (For me, annoy comes in the morning, I guess.) Stupid Duke. Stupid Duke fans who barely even know what rentals they’re cheering for each year. Stupid ESPN and their Jon Scheyer worship. (Pastner and Grant could have been successful with Duke’s roster, much less Tony and Ham.) I’m grouchy, get off my lawn.
Had a Duke fan I know tell me to “take the L” after he defended the Duke teams twitter account recently complaining about the refs call that happened a month ago. Bruhhhhh
Apologies if this has been said already, but the story of the game for me is in our 2P shooting. The defense performed about the same as the first game, and our 3P shooting was bad and limited in quantity like the first game, but we shot way worse on 2s and got fewer attempts at the rim. Some of this is Young and Lively’s minutes being flipped compared to this first matchup, and some of this is not having shooting at the 4 spot to pull Filipowski out of the paint on defense. I think our guards were pressing at bit, starting late in the first half, which is where the higher-than-average TO rate came from.
I’m not sure how much to worry about it, because Clemson is an even better 2P defense team than Duke, and we just cut them up inside. But this is not our best 2P shooting team for sure.
This team goes through stretches of being phenomenally terrible at bunnies. Not always, but they’re just occasionally off the charts bad (FTs, too) and I could not tell you why.
