A clip of Rohde running the same action as Kolek above.
Kolek is awesome to watch. Master at moving without the ball
And see Rohde took the rythm dribble on the made 3
Yeah there was a shot vs Texas A&M that comes to mind too.
A lot of the sets we run at UVA dont really allow that opportunity to pull up into a 3 of a screen . Mostly catch and shoot 3s/ if you catch the ball at the top of the key you are looking to pass to one of the sides
The second part of the clip is a great solution for someone getting face guarded: turn them into a screener since their defender is way out of position to help. Could use IMac this way when he’s getting overplayed.
We’re gonna have to have to figure out this AR stuff by next year. Whenever I see AR I think of Anthony Robinson.
I also think staff were probably aware of his strengths and weaknesses (heck there was a tweet saying Rohde is really good on ball but really bad off ball/intrigued to see how he would fit at UVA where he would mostly be off ball). Along with that transfer portal video that was basically like “Rohde is 1.3 ppp of DHO and in transition and only .76 ppp on catch and shoot opportunities”. Maybe staff wanted to try more of that stuff but we began the season with no playable centers/solid screen setters. Even now its mostly Minor and Maybe Buchanan at times
RoDog! I think the team calls him Drew though.
They actually called him Rohde all practice ha
I get that when Reece is on the court, it makes sense for Rohde to be mostly getting catch and shoot opportunities, but I’m a little surprised that the plan for the Reece bench minutes hasn’t been “have Rohde do a poor man’s Reece and run as many pick and rolls as he can.”
I think Rohde should be Reece’s backup and you pair him with Gertrude and one of McKneely or Taine in those stretches.
No more Dante minutes. The Dante minutes are never good. Even when they are.
edit: I still think it’s a bad mutual fit for both Tony and Rohde. But I want to see Rohde run some point with McKneely and Gertrude in non b/m sets. There is a small chance Rohde could be our starting point guard opening day next season and he could be more effective in that role with more established screen setters and Gertrude filling in for the aggression we see with Reece
VERY good point. However it’s probably because they would let him *try to finish in the lane, and with Reece they can’t do that because he can finish in the lane.
Yeah, that is damning considering the minutes. For a team that has trouble scoring, not getting to the line is a millstone.
DHO would be more effective for dunn too. Instead of aimlessly standing on the perimeter, gets him downhill some on a fake hand off pass.
Basically Tony needs to hit up McKay for some play suggestions heading to Cameron @AdventiveQuasar
We don’t need no Kirk Penney, we have Kirk Penney at home*
*Lynchburg
“the dante minutes are never good. even when they are” is the perfect summation of how i feel about him.
he had a nice layup at end of the shot clock last night. even as he made it, i’m thinking “shit, this better not reinforce this decision”. He was pretty directly responsible for giving up 7 points in the first few minutes he was in the game (messed up a screen w/ dunns man = open 3, gave up a layup, etc.)
I wonder why we don’t run alley oops for Dunn. Back screen and let him soar.
I must watch too much NBA because it’s Austin Reeves for me every time lol
Which AR is higher in the rotation next year at UVA?
Looks like this thread has been dormant for a while, but I’m curious what y’all think is the PT prognosis for AR heading into next season, now that we’ve recruited Warley, Saunders, TJ and Dai Dai, and watched Taine come on strong late in the season.
Where is Rohde in the rotation come October, and what does it depend on?
