Agree Fresh. It’s not there- not even close. Rohde needs to change it up for next year.
He played last year because he was a “secondary ballhandler”. Now we have Dai Dai, Bliss, Warley, and IMac, and X if he is able to come back. We don’t need that anymore and he was not great on defense if you actually watched the games. He was ok at best, and mediocre most of the time.
I can’t think of a reason for Rohde to play over Taine if we look at last year. Taine is an agressive shooter and athlete but he’s not a ballhandler. Also brings some toughness which we have lacked outside of a few players.
If Rohde doesn’t switch it up and become a sniper, and plays a lot, it’s a bad sign for what’s to come. He’s the 8-10th guy at best in the rotation. If he plays more than 10 mins a game we will be in trouble.
Book him right now for over 20 mins/game. He’s right up CTB’s alley and it’s a blind spot, like Stattman was.
Also, nobody benefitted more from X’s more than Rohde. Not his fault, but it keeps him in the discussion of the rotation guys.
Hope he comes back and is lighting it up for us from deep next year.
I think if he hit like 7 more 3s on the season we
wouldn’t be having this convo honestly.
His defense was fine. In the context of a sophomore / first year in the pack line I’d say it was pretty good. He was out-athleted sometimes by bigger wings or quicker guards. But positionslly he was very solid. Better than iMac and got blown by less.
So what will it take for him to turn the corner? For me it’s just for him to make a few more threes and get a little bigger
He got the nickname Sahara in here for a reason - Andrew did not look in shape at any point last year. I’m willing to consider that a fit Rohde is quicker, stronger, and better able to do just about everything. I also don’t rule out that he may just not be an ACC athlete. But I think if it’s the latter, that the hook will come a lot faster this year and he will be pegged to the bench.
I agree with the point about Rohde being adequate defensively. I think he defends at a similar level to Ty Jerome. Rohde starting this season would indicate to me that the other guys (Dai Dai, Bliss, Power) just aren’t quite there defensively which lowers the ceiling of next year’s team.
Rohde is limited both offensively and defensively by his below average athleticism for a high-major guard. I don’t see home getting that much better as a shooter - his mechanics are a bit weird which I think limits his shooting upside. And generally you need guys who are not the best athletes to be elite shooters (i.e. Ty).
I do think Rohde could get to be an adequate bench option for a very good college team (shooting 34-36%) from 3, he has good passing ability and can be an adequate defender, can improve as a scorer (getting better at scoring in the mid-range against top competition), and can be a good ball handler. But he definitely couldn’t be better than a 5th or 6th option on a top 15 team.
Sahara cause he always looked plodding, if thats a word. Yea man, ACC is different athletically. Rohde is young still, or was. But you cant just flip that athletic switch easily
I think we just sucked at getting to the hoop this season. I don’t remember iMac dunking (although he probably had 2-3 … maybe). Would
guess Rohde probably needs a full open transition to do it, a la Jerome.
