IMac I think can do some PG if he puts mind to it but the problem until recently is that he was the only proven 3 pt shooter and we needed him to concentrate on that. With the added shooting transfers and maybe Cain that could change things but he is still our #1 shooter and we have to be careful when messing with that.

Tried to bite my tongue but iMac has a near 1 to 1 A/TO ratio. What am I missing here?

I understand your point of view..Ironically I’m okay with the redshirt…or atleast not surprised because we actually are a DEEP team now going into next year.

I thought we were deep last year but wanted Traudt to play because he was ready and we could have used his shooting which may have been ACC ready.

With Robinson I don’t know if he has a skill yet that would make him ACC ready unless in the summer and fall he shows he can rebound, block shots, and play Defense at the minimum like Ryan Dunn could.

Well to be fair *if Caffarro had left last year then maybe Traudt *would have felt more inclined to play ie: feeling needed…now I know it’s been said that he didn’t feel ready but at some point you just want to lace them up and do your best.

Just needs to be uncaged. Last year he played with Reece!! and Kihei all year and probly spent most of the season with them in practice too. So when he is given the ball in game as the PG it becomes very different

I think

I mean, we’ll see, but I don’t think it’s something folks are just making up. On Torvik, Rohde is classified as a “Scoring PG” based on his player profile. You can watch St. Thomas’ games and you’ll see him bringing the ball down the court and initiating offense. And per @StLouHoo, he had the third best assist ratio in the Summit League last year and posted a 3.9-1.9 A-TO ratio in conference play.

But I, on the other hand, don’t see how people are seeing McKneely at the 1. He does not look like a PG at all to me. He seems like a pure SG with a half decent handle. But we shall see. This season will be fun!

The comp that always comes up is Kyle Guy with iMac. Not the same player but I believe at the very least fills the same role. Guy’s AST/TO was about 1.5/1 and was very rarely asked to facilitate. I kinda wish he had come back in 19-20 to be more of a PG and show teams what he could do there.

This is all to say I don’t think anybody can make an accurate guess on how Isaac would handle PG duties. Certainly not from that one stat anyway.

I’m in your camp on this one. As far as starting the offense, that seems pretty doable for IMac, Rhode, etc. but, for me, the PG is a guy that makes the others around him better. Of course that shows up as assists on the score card, but sometimes it is the second pass as well. The PG needs to be able to create some problems for the defense. I never saw IMac making a move with the intention of finding an open man. Maybe he can do it, but what we saw 99% of the time from him last year was a shot or the simplest pass he could make, generally to the guy standing closest to him. When he penetrated the D, he was looking nowhere but at the basket.

Don’t think much more was asked or expected of him, so maybe he can do it.

Idk what’s going on but I just want PGs who can shoot 38%+ from 3 while maintaining a 2:1 a/to ratio. Don’t care what their personality looks like. Or Reece. Anyone who fits either category works for me

I think now that the roster is coming into focus, we need a generic 2023 off-season thread or 23-24 season preview thread or something. Probably the former. Maybe I’ll do that later

Virginia’s post season struggles can be directly linked to injuries, or, in 2021’s case, illness. There have been issues with some recruiting years, but they have nothing to do with tournament losses. And, despite all this, the worse finish for Virginia was sixth (2022). Aside from that Virginia has finished tied for 2nd, tied for 1st, and alone in 1st. It’s not as though things are broken. I think the hand wringing is totally unwarranted.

One (or) more thing(s) as I graffiti the walls in the A-Rob thread:

  • I don’t think alpha or dawg has much to do with personality (except inasmuch as we [probably wrongly] infer personality from playing style). I think alpha dawg has to do more with usage, shooting%**, and most relevantly, being the guy willing to take the bad shot at the end of the shot clock. Reece’s usage was fairly highly in limited sample size prior to getting dinged, and then it dipped post-injury, and increased a bit but never really recovered to the pre-injury level. Which ultimately left the question as to whether we just saw a statistical anomaly in those early games or if Reece was still dinged slightly or if Reece being only slightly dinged and only once in a while caused him and Kihei to fall back into old habits.
  • To this point:

So I guess we can either ask Tony and staff to work on some sort of adamantium exoskeleton for our guys, along with some bulletproof immuno-boosting pill, OR we can ask them to remember that they coach in a semi-contact sport and injuries to someone in the rotation are a fairly common occurrence OR we could ask our fans to remember that we had become a fairly mediocre team even with a healthy BVP by the end of the year and that we were fully healthy in 2022 when we lost at home in the NIT.

I think we were basically, at the end of this year, an only marginally better version of the team we were at the end of last year. But we also have lots of young talent. The past two years, we leaned more into an older but not that talented team.

It doesn’t have anything to do with anything because it means something different to every person lmao that’s the entire reason it’s stupid to keep using it. Give me London and his cali cool over whatever thing y’all keep pining for every day of the week

We have this thread already open…

I bumped it so it is at the top of the list…

Keep using it? I believe I just invented the term. On my way to the PTO to confirm.

Is there a non-VIP version?

It is my understanding that Vander Plas was suffering most of February with a bad back, so he wasn’t truly healthy. And, IMO, mediocre teams do not manage to work their way into the ACCT championship game. Virginia may not have been elite, but it was far from mediocre before Vander Plas’ struggles.
