🫧 Bubble Watch

Relevant games tomorrow:

Noon Michigan St vs Purdue Q1
1 PM Mississippi St vs Tennessee Q1

These two only matter if they lose and we can somehow pass them, but it’s doubtful we do that without winning the ACCT.

6:30 PM St. John’s vs UCONN Q1

St. John’s is extremely close to us on Bracket Matrix, I’d guess slightly ahead because of their better win today.

7:30 PM Ohio State vs Illinois Q1
8 PM Texas A&M vs Kentucky Q1
8 PM Pitt vs UNC Q1

These three teams are probably 2nd, 3rd, and 4th out or so. I’m not sure they can catch us, but maybe if they start stacking Q1 wins.

8 PM FAU vs North Texas (AAC QF, FAU championship opens up an extra at large)

10:30 PM UVA vs NC State Q2

Plus potentially games from New Mexico and Colorado if they win tonight, and those two are direct competitors for spots and/or avoiding Dayton.

It’s hard for my mind to adjust to Boise State being the solid lock tourney team in a matchup

SVP is just dug in in his anti-UVa-in-the-tourney stance right now.

Yes, Pitt beat us. But also UVa has a better body of work. (Maybe don’t lose to a team that went 0-19 in the SEC next year.)

Pitt deserves to be there far more than a lot of the Big East, Big 12 and Big 10 trash that’ll make it.

Didn’t Providence win vs Creighton? Did I hallucinate that?

I hate UNC but I’ll feel a lot better about our chances if they beat Pitt. A Pitt/NC State final would steal a bid and honestly I don’t feel great about our game tomorrow. NC State has the look of a team that gets some magic for a few days and wins the tournament kind of like VT or Georgetown or Oregon St from the last few years.

4 games in 4 days is really hard, they will fight (maybe literally) but we will make them work hard and i expect to see them show some wear tomorrow. Not sure what DJ will have in the tank and he is a key piece.

As a middle aged guy, playing 4 games in 4 days sounds exhausting. I’d be curious what the former players say about it. Are well-conditioned 20 year olds (and Rohde) worn down or are they able to handle it without too much trouble?

Since we went to the five-day format, NC.State is the first team to play the first four days. So it’s pretty unprecedented. But one of the years UConn won a natty, they won five games in five days at the Big East tourney then rolled through the NCAAT to win 11 straight. Think that was Kemba’s team.

I think that was a factor late in our game when BC couldnt hit from the perimeter. You gotta have your legs on those outside shots. NCS has a deeper bench than BC but will still be hard inngame 4. I believe they are the first playin team to make the quarter finals since the ACCT expended to 14 teams

I am confident Burns will be affected, instead of 3 minutes at a time, he may have to sub at 2 minutes

Is Villanova the only bubble result that went our way today? Damn. PLEASE don’t tell me tomorrow is a must-win too.

Would seem to me we need to cheer for UNC, Kentucky, and Marquette above all else (and FAU for the bid save opportunity) tomorrow

Oklahoma, Miss.St., Seton Hall and Indiana State should be very nervous after today’s games.

You make a good point. I’m just wondering how much of that is because the play in teams are typically significantly worse than the top 4 seeds vs fatigue from playing more games.

We have done what needed to be done. It’s not a soft bubble, but I think we did enough to pass those teams (some definitely). Should have jumped Nova and Seton Hall. No reason to have middling teams who didn’t win their first round game. And on my soapbox, please no more than five MWC teams! They had a nice year but no.

All that said, I figure we could still be on the way to Dayton next week (speaking of Dayton… how did they stay ranked with all their losses?).

Posted multiple times about this, and SVP exhibited it last night, we are about to get absolutely shredded by ESPN/media as a bad team that should not make it. We’ll see if the committee can withstand it, but it will be incredibly loud if we lose today

Maybe, but A) I assume the cmte is smarter than that b) they’d get shredded if they leave out a 23 win, 3rd place team in the ACC with no bad losses (per metrics)

We are in no matter the outcome tonight short of multiple (3ish) bid stealers from conf tourneys
