Some of us firmly believe that Thanksgiving deserves its own limelight. As soon as turkey day is over, that’s when all things Christmas can begin.

In a store today my wife said “Oh, should we pick out some new ornaments?” and I just replied “Thanksgiving is not over” and kept walking. (Obviously in good humor, but also, Thanksgiving isn’t over yet! Back the hell off Christmas!)

This is a nice topic though. I look forward to revisiting it post Thanksgiving.

I can’t find any pictures of Christmas when I was little… but here are some from Christmas Day 2005 in Baghdad… I had asked the commander (COL Sanmarco, USA… stupid Army guys) if I could report one week later so I could celebrate Christmas at home, but he said no… I flew in on the C-130 in the third picture which the pilots had to evade a SAM on descent. Loadmaster put a Santa hat on when we landed, stood up and said “Welcome to Baghdad, Merry F’ing Christmas!”

I then proceeded to sit in a tent for 5-days because the guy I was replacing had extended a week to get short tour credit. Haha! Funny now, but not funny then.

Last picture is a picture of a dog, Lucy, who the Australian PSD team at the building my office was in brought with them from Canberra. About half way through my tour this rocket hit right next to the building and she took shrapnel in the hind legs… but the Combat Support Hospital saved her life and she was running around again before i left. She was a great dog.

The Army Illinois National Guard MAJ to the right of me was my supervisor and an awesome dude… last I heard he is in line to become the TA General for Illinois soon.

Jumping in here with a couple.

First one is a special one. My dad passed when ai was 9 months old so theres only a handful of pics of us together. Him showing me the Christmas tree is the only one of us from Christmas and our only Christmas together.

Awesome pictures @BDragon… the picture of your dad holding you at the Christmas tree threw me for a loop since it was upside down initially. My brain couldn’t orient itself. Haha! Thought you might’ve been floating or something.

Told the wife on Saturday that there is only one Christmas rap song worth knowing and that was it.

@jazznutUVA, or maybe this one? The Tony Bennett connection not withstanding, the singer backed by the Count Basie Big Band has few equals in the Christmas genre. Merry Christmas! :sunglasses:

I love Count Basie… Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman led big bands are up there too.

As “jazznut” have you ever listened to any of Chick Webb’s orchestra’s recordings? As a 30s band from Harlem, they didn’t get the best recording facilities from the record company, but they could swing with the best of them. In spite of the recording quality, you can hear remarkable arrangements and outstanding performances.
