Exactly, Z! Place the right pilot in the cockpit and allow them to use the props that UVA avails to them. Nothing Mox does surprises me. She was the same type of player at Oakton in high school – whatever it took to win, Mox was going to do it and no one could out-work her. Mox approaches coaching the same way – faith, family and team.
Olivia smartly went through the process. But word was leaking out sometime ago that she was leaning heavily toward UVA and saying Kymora was coming with her. If (when) that happens, it will be a seismic explosion in the world of high school/AAU girl’s basketball!!
But even before we get into next year, just look at how quickly Mox has flipped the script.
She inherited Mir McLean, who was top 25 in her class and a McDonald’s All American. To have Mir, Sam Brunelle, and Alexia Smith together on the court is an incredible trio to kick off a new coaching job. Almost mind numbing when you consider how bad recruiting has been for so long. All three have something to prove. Plus, returning starters PG Taylor Valladay and Forward Camryn Taylor can play. If these kids can stay mostly healthy with 11 scholarship players, it could be an enjoyable season to watch the program’s first step back to respectability.

I’m old enough to very much remember the Dawn, Tammi, Burge twin years, and was very hopeful we’d hire Tammi.
I don’t know if the program will reach that level again, and I still think Tammi would have been a great hire, but it’s becoming very apparent Carla knew what she was doing and made a great decision.
