Pat Kelsey. Really good/nice guy. He is under the Skip Prosser Xavier/Wake coaching tree (Dino Gaudio and Chris Mack too). So would be a bit of a repeat…
This is what happens when your fanbase thinks they’re gonna be able to land Billy Donovan. I swear every high profile coaching search goes through this.
The Dusty May debacle was funny and it’s also entertaining that baby Pitino is staying at New Mexico, but UL is ‘backing into’ a really good coach in Pat Kelsey. Their fanbase should be fairly optimistic about this considering how disastrous Mack and Payne were, but instead they’re currently melting down. This search could have gone MUCH worse if they end up with Kelsey.
Yeah, Kelsey is actually one I’ve kept an eye on if/when TB leaves.
I think Kelsey is weirdly intense** but I also acknowledge there are some potential Cronin vibes there - meaning the 8th choice coach who’s actually well suited and will succeed pretty well.
** so are a lot of coaches, to be fair
Their fans seem split. On one hand, he’s a really good coach who’s gotten a lot from the mid majors and has earned a shot.
On the other hand, boy they don’t seem thrilled they’ve landed a guy who came from Chris Mack’s coaching tree 
Visited CoC with younger daughter while doing college tours recently. For anyone who hasn’t seen it, the campus is kind of wild. Its right in the middle of Charleston and felt like… going to college in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square or something.
There was a sorority house with a wrought iron spiral staircase for a fire escape. There was a dorm with these huge sweeping staircases, like “Welcome to my dorm, its styled after Versailles”. The faculty department buildings were old mansions that were color-coordinated like the gingerbread houses of Martha’s Vineyard. And it was an early Sunday afternoon so of course there were Solo cups half full of beer randomly lying around everywhere.
I’m sure the academics are good and all, but them having serious sports teams feels really off-brand. I have never seen a campus that felt more “College students at a party theme-park for four years”. Younger daughter was very intrigued.
We lived in Charleston for 4 years.
If I could turn back the clock to 17, and know what I know now…I’d go to CoC (full disclosure not a UVa grad, just a lifelong fan).

Edit - I note that Kelsey’s wikipedia page lists his current job as Head Coach of Louisville’s Men’s basketball team.
Goodman said something like “barring a breakdown in negotiations” it’s Kelsey. But breakdowns in negotiations happen sometimes…
