SMU firing Lanier after a 10 win improvement from the previous season and then hiring a guy who couldnāt go .500 with elite level talent would be⦠something
lol those guys are idiots. They may be decent in football in the future but theyāll never be a contender. You can basic level math to figure that out.
The money guy ring leader at SMU played basketball there in the 70ās. I wouldnāt discount him playing a big role in the talent upgrade needed to compete in ACC ($$$)
Coryās favorite womenās program?!

Oh Iām sure theyāll get the talent, I just donāt get the idea of hiring a guy who literally just showed he couldnāt win with top end talent.
Oh boy, nothing could go wrong thereā¦.
incredible.
also thatās the BEST Louisville can do?! really? He was middling at Minnesota. Itās Louisville for chrissake.
Hasnāt Louisville seen Game of Thrones? This wonāt end well
My reaction to Louisville bungling yet another head coaching decision in the most high profile way possible:

I had to check out the Louisville board for the meltdown entertainment, and what I saw wasā¦surprising.
More than I expected are rationalizing that it could be a good hire. Wowā¦Kenny Payne broke them.
Richard does a good job, itās just not the level to make Louisville what they once were. He will definitely raise the floor of the program and if heās learned a few things along the way, he will bring them back to respectability. Minnesota doesnāt have near the resources or brand as Louisville and he had some good years there, so hereās to hoping he can make them a competitive ārivalā and bring back some of respect for the ACC that Kenny Payne threw away.
Lol heās going to Kansas I think (at least thatās the early rumor). But I remembered he was your guy
lol I was so excited for him to announce I put it in the wrong thread
What they should do is bring back Rick and have him commit to 3-5 years bring on Richard as the associate head coach and heir apparent.
My only real inside source is a family member of a big Louisville donor. Just reached out to them.
āIāve heard a lot of names, but not Richā¦ā was their response.
I recall a discussion recently about the impact of football $ on basketball. Regarding the perceived drop in coaching quality in the league, several argued that there were just a lot of Hall of Fame coaches retire at once and a few isolated poor hiring decisions behind them.
Louisville just lost their plan A target to Michigan (a lesser program on historical prestige) and are looking to land Richard Pitino. Top 10 Virginia Techās Womenās coach just left for Kentucky.
Hard for me not to conclude that the ACCās relative financial position and concern about league stability (all football driven) isnāt negatively impacting the basketball product.
