🎠 Coaching carousel - 2026

Thought it’d be good to start this. I like Odom but ngl, I do love a good coaching search.

Time flies. Was it the 20 or 21 season he was looking like a lock to make the Sun Devils relevant?

In like 18 and 19 or so he had Lu Dort and Remy Martin but he never made it out of the first round.

Damn that was 19 when Casey and Remy went head to head in the random pre-Thanksgiving Tournament held in a subway tunnel outside of Newark.

Didn’t realize it’s been that long. I don’t feel so bad about the firing then with that perspective.

Thought that was Morsell’s coming out party…

Fun fact: before that ASU game, Morsell was 5/36 from the field

Same note too. I thought we had a real one after that.

And I think that was his Virginia career high if I remember.

Here’s Norlander’s tracker.

High majors open: BC, GT, Providence, K-State, and now Ariz St

UNC-G coming open is a surprise, thought Mike Jones was a possible candidate in years past to move up a level.

The names to know article was interesting too:

Ritchie McKay (Liberty). One of the five winningest mid-major coaches of the past decade, which is an amazing feat for a guy with a lengthy résumé. He’s won 11 conference trophies at Liberty and will likely hit 300 wins at the school by the end of this month. Few coaches have his experience and proven record of winning over a long stretch. He’s turned down a few jobs in recent years, but I’m told McKay’s still open to leveling up, so we’ll see.

And a casual mention that he is assuming Jacque Vaughn is coach-in-waiting at Kansas:

I could easily reel off 25 names, but let’s go with a clean 10 — and this is by no means a top 10. These are 10 assistants at programs currently projected to be high-end seeds (No. 5 or better) in this year’s tournament. I’m not including Kellen Sampson at Houston or Jacque Vaughn at Kansas, two prominent assistants who appear to be waiting to scoot over a chair whenever the time comes

How would UNCG be “leveling up” compared to Liberty?

The Ritchie pull-quote is unrelated to my musing about UNC-G coming open. The article Ritchie is mentioned in is just a list of head coaches and assistants who seem like possible movers.

Interesting. By now I’d figured McKay was content to just finish his career where he is.

Do I remember Bryan Hodgson correctly as the guy who, as an assistant, started dating and later married the sister of one of his players?

Thought it was a Bama undergrad, but maybe it was a sister.

I think it was a sister who was an undergrad at the time.

More smoke around Wade to LSU, mostly fanned by an LSU beat guy from tigerdroppings. The NC State guys are pretty vehemently saying there’s not truth to it, but not sure they’re really in the know.

Who knows if it’ll actually happen, but I think it’s definitely being discussed by the parties involved.

Would love to see Richie get a shot at a P4. Unfortunately, it would likely be a bottom feeder P4 (a la BC) so I’d guess he’ll stay put.

I’d give it a 5% chance that Carmelo is patrolling the sideline next season. Hiring ex-players with no head coaching experience. What could go wrong?

If it worked for Clyde drexler, Patrick ewing, and Chris Mullin, it can work for Melo. :joy:
