⛹ Dai Dai Ames - Official Thread

I’ll be honest, I’d rather have Dante come back and be the backup PG over Rohde. I saw all I needed to see of him against Campbell and can’t take another year of him playing more than 5 minutes a game haha

Me too.

But truthfully, my strongest held opinion is that we shouldn’t make every damn thread into a conversation about Andrew Rohde because it’s boring as hell (not blaming you).

That was the lineup I thought we were going to start the season with. I wanted Power to beat out Rohde, but here we are.

My impression, at the moment and given the substitution patterns, is that Coach Sanchez is doing just that: increasing the sample size. He has the luxury of do so against the likes of Campbell and Coppin State. We’ll learn more soon enough.

We have a whole season of Rohde playing on the wing. We have seen him play the point for one game. All that data is nearly meaningless now.

I dont agree with this.

No way, we’ve seen him fail to advance the ball under pressure, fail to achieve (or stop) any sort of dribble penetration, fail to hit shots, do I have to keep going? Those are all the things PGs need to do.

I hate to rag on him because he seems like a good guy and a good teammate. But he’s gotten hundreds of live-game minutes to show us his stuff.

We’ve seen him play PG at St Thomas 33mpg and play secondary ball handler here 25mpg.

We’ve seen what he looks like at PG last season when Dante was hurt including the Texas A&M game but also the Memphis game - and this season for another 33 mins struggle to stand up to pressure against Campbell.

We’ve seen him with the ball in his hands both setting up our offense and at the end of a shot clock many many times during his career here.

I’m probably more generous to Rohde than most but that’s a ton of information on his game, skill set, and capabilities even if he wasn’t titled “PG” for some of it.

Rohde is kind of like Kihei in that he needs scorers around him to be effective, and he can be effective in such a scenario. Ames appears to be more like Ty in that he can distribute, but can also be a scoring threat when needed. With guys like Power and Taine struggling, I feel like we need more of a “Ty” than a “Kihei” right now. For me, it’s that simple…

Is there a team that wouldn’t need Ty more than Kihei?

National Champion Kihei Clark doesn’t belong in your Rohde conversation

Agree. And I don’t care how “sound” he might be in practice. At some point you have to deliver with the lights on and asses in the seats, and he’s failed in that regard despite having been given ample opportunity.

Yeah, no I’m going to go with the exact opposite.

Rohde is like Ty if Ty weren’t really good at basketball. You know, like shooting, penetrating, being a dawg, etc.

Ames is like Kihei. I mean he’s not, but he’s a lot more Kihei than Ty.

Dai Dai is Teven Jones if Teven Jones were about 65% better than he was.

Rohde is not an Acc caliber PG.
He got worked by Campbell for crying out loud. His shot is flatter then Kyrie’s earth model.

Have always said to be a full time lead guard in the ACC you gotta be real.

Rhode has gotten far more playing time that i believe he’s deserved. He probably irritates me more than any player UVA ever had. Someone said he had an high IQ .If that’s the case then he obviously has brain freeze because he can make some of the dumbest plays I’ve ever seen.
