Ridiculous, after 4 years he should be more seasoned than that.
I agree, but apparently Sanchez doesn’t…
In the age of analytics and load management (which I am dead against) you would think someone would tell coach “hey Ron, Rohde has played 25 minutes (against) Campbell and Dai Dai only 7…”
I hate pretending to know injuries but “back” screams to me of overuse and too many minutes at Game 1! They also commented Imac cramping but he didnt wanna come out game 1 at 35 minutes
F me Fresh is getting soft but seeing what Dai Dai may be capable of when allowed to catch his second wind it baffles me really
I’m a big proponent of Taine and really, really want to see him have a great senior year. That being said, last night’s performance by him was maybe the worst I’ve seen of a scholarship 4th year in a Virginia uniform.
It’s obvious to everyone Dai Dai needs to start. Unfortunately we are gonna have to watch Rohde struggle as a starter in next game or two for it to actually happen barring an injury.
Nova starts Jhamir Brickus at PG, 5’11ish. Tenn of course starts 5’9 Zeigler at PG. Both small, quick guards. Do those sound like Rohde covers or Dai Dai covers…
Although I have constantly said Rohde would be great off the bench I dont care if Dai Dai starts but only giving him 10 minutes and Rohde 33 is criminal.
All has been said for going on 2 years now
Love Taine’s attitude but yeah, he is a 10th man guy who should only get spot minutes.
Virginia has played two games, and they weren’t against the steepest competition it will face this year. It is way too early to be making judgements about the players’ roles on this team. Admittedly, Murray had the worst game of his career. Judging from the sorts of mistakes he was making, I think it is safe to say that his head wasn’t in the game. I don’t know why, but none of us can say with any certainty that it was an aberration or a portent of things to come. Additionally, we haven’t seen nearly enough of Rohde at PG, or Aims, to justify any opinions of their future roles. Lastly, it seems to me that the staff is experimenting with player combinations so, IMO, that makes much of fans’ speculations a bit “iffy”.
Sorry man, but that’s a … take right there.
Ames’ two blocks last night tied Rohde’s two, from the entire 2023-24 season. And his 13 points tied Rohde’s Virginia high.
And Rohde never whipped a pass like Ames did last night to McKneely at the backdoor. How McKneely missed that bunny is beyond me.
Ames is still in training wheels. Rohde has had a year.
It’s really not close, man.
Nope! It’s just two games. The sample size isn’t nearly big enough.
If you were coaching, how would you decide? Random number generator until we have a statistically significant sample size?
In-arena fan vote 20 minutes before tip to encourage attendance. I think an arena football league team tried something like this once, maybe giving livestream viewers play calling input?
Somewhat more seriously, I’d be blending information from practice, games, and opponent scouting, and would give the games more weight over time. And I would not be playing a single minute without one of Dai Dai or Rohde on the floor (assuming health), because I’ve seen enough to say that’s a bad idea.
How many screens do you watch DJ Laster slip before you change the coverage or personnel or both?
I think there is typically a proper amount of faith to have in one’s priors. And it’s not none (Gillen), and it’s not more or less total (Tony).
If Rohde starts Friday at PG, I will wonder if Ron is more or less at the Tony end of the spectrum.
Agree completely. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start both honestly…
Dai Dai iMac Rohde Saunders Blake. Don’t really like it but wouldn’t surprise me.
I am guessing Ron might not like it either but think it’s smart to continue to ease Cofie in and have some exp on the floor for Nova. His time is coming.
He also had some clutch performances last year and has proven reliable more often than not. I’m not benching a player because of one brutally bad game. He was considerably better than Rohde all last season, in my opinion. He also attacks the rim hard (to his detriment last night), which is not something we have a ton of on this team. He also shot over 40% from three last season.
I might be the only person who doesn’t hate Rohde and Dai Dai together provided Dai Dai is the primary ball handler. Let Rohde be a secondary facilitator. Gives us two ball handlers and allows us to Forest’s point ease Cofie in more.
One concern I have is not having Bliss to provide depth if he’s still hurt for a while.
Ok….
We have more than 30 with Rohde. We know what he is, and it smells like what you step in down in Blacksburg
.
I would ask me, since I know the answer.
