Still trying to figure out how we landed Dai Dai

He’s not the juice that we deserved but he’s the juice that we needed

I love everything about him

There’s some Instagram videos of Dai Dai training in Chicago (the account is @fraction_ ) and it looks like his shot is much quicker and smoother than in some of the in game videos

Take a look at Reece’s stats as a first year. On a really good team too. His numbers didn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Hmm, yep, motion looks more compact

That’s 3 UVA players working out in Chicago (Dai Dai, Power, Rohde)

Agency that reps Power has a Chicago office and probably had guys in the area already for the draft combine, so it makes sense to just have everyone train together. Dai Dai’s representation is Chicago-based too, which makes sense with him being from there.

We all look better on the driving range!

Maybe this is a trivial point, but I’d (kind of) given up on Rohde before the Gertrude news. But Rohde obviously hasn’t given up on himself. I’d say the odds of a massive jump from him to ACC starter quality are slim, but they aren’t zero. And I wish him luck getting there.

Agree but he started almost every game last year

For whatever it’s worth, here’s Brennan’s take on Rohde from his piece on Virginia yesterday.

That reads like an early December LRA post right there

Rohde could turn into pale, sweaty Jordan and Tony’s decision to play him exactly 31mpg for 2/3 of last season will still be extremely dumb.

Rohde also has an extremely diminished chance of ever being useful if we play him exclusively at the 3. He just is not physical enough for that. The entire benefit of him at Saint Thomas is that he can handle the ball well enough at 6’6" to NOT play the 3 and exploit matchups against smaller 1s and 2s

My official, earnest Rohde take: he’s a piece whose offensive usefulness will depend on who he plays with. He could be really useful if he plays with a few good scorers who he can help connect.

But if we do what we did last year, and lean into his connector-ness when there is nothing to connect, that will always be a bad decision, reflective of a coach who doesn’t particularly care about having a good offense.

Yeah, i tend to think it was a bad decision for staff to look at what Rohde did well with the Tommies and say “Y’know what we should do ? NONE of that but instead have him be the opposite of that!”

These are the kinds of things that IMO get under-discussed in the “how will our offense change?” discourse, except by me, who over-discusses them.

Virginia should do whatever St Andrews does on offense?
