There was a guy on the Penn State 247 board (I guess heās considered to be in the know) who made a post yesterday predicting Franklin would get fired today. Also in that post he said Urban Meyer would have interest in the job.
Top 10 coach at a school where the expectation is you gotta be top 5. Itās why I was hoping heād stick it out there for at least one more year, he goes to any of VT, UNC, or NCST and heāll be a problem.
I am not a Franklin homer by any means, but I kinda hope that PSU botches this. Absolutely no loyalty to the guy that resurrected that program following that horrific scandal? Not even letting him coach out the rest of the year following a 13 win campaign? winning that many games regularly is not something that just āhappensā when you stack talent on a roster btw. See Miami, FSU, Nebraska, and a ton of programs in the SEC over the past 20 years to understand that point. And while he was very poor against top-5 teams, make no mistake, his squads would annihilate any team that wasnāt. I have a feeling PSU is prob gonna regret this in a little bit
I mean I get what youāre saying but that was Bill OāBrien..
I agree with the sentiment though. think firing him will probably prove to be a mistake unless Cig or Elko has shown strong interest which I doubt either has. Hell maybe they go back to BoB?
This is the real fear. That would be really tough for us I think.
I bet more than a few teams will be interested in him though. Could see him getting calls from Kentucky (if they make a move) and Auburn for sure. Tech would be silly not to call him. If Wisconsin hasnāt already committed themselves to Leipold, they could give him a call too. I really hope that he either takes a year off to enjoy his money or one of these better jobs swoops him up first.
I think if you asked some people, Jimbo and Coach O basically did this their last seasons.
I would like to see some reform for the structure of these contracts. Pay them more for shorter amounts of time would likely be where it ended up, but schools being trapped in bad situations with some of these guys is a no-win for anyone. A lot of these coaches are like having to live with your ex-girlfriend until the lease is up. The Stoops-Kentucky situation may have to go on like this for a couple more years where absolutely everyone involved is just hateful and miserable to one another.
I mean even for us- it looks like itāll work out for another couple years, but I think the contract we gave a first time HC that was basically fully guaranteed for most of a decade was ridiculous. And our top line buyout number isnāt even that bad!
