0 chance it goes down to 8. 16 teams is much more likely. Guarantee the top 4 they get a top 8 seed to host but that’s it.

Yea its an interesting breakdown that bye teams went 0-4 and and conference champs went 0-5.

The teams with the bye had upwards of a month off in ASUs case that’s almost like resetting the season similar to what the old bowl structure was.

I think we’ll see the tide swing back as programs adjust and get reps in the new system.

Its already in the contract to expand to 16 in 26 or 27 i believe.

Fair points in both. 16 would at least equalize the bye / home game issue.

I don’t think there is a disadvantage to the byes to be honest. Really I think it’s more of a small sample size issue. Of the four teams, you had a G5 squad, a not great ASU team outside of Skattebo, and a Georgia team down its starting QB. The only surprise is Oregon, but even then OSU was favored heading into the game for reasons unrelated to the bye. So if anything it may be an argument against conference champs getting a bye

Agree about the small sample size and Boise and ASU being one dimensional teams.

I’m not ready to dismiss the bye teams just yet. Like I said i think we see the tide swing back as more teams become accustomed to the system and we get stronger conference champions.

Even with the outcome I’m okay with the results. The OSU Oregon game was the only game I didnt watch intently and generally speaking the product has been good. Despite being overmatched ASU gave is a helluva game. Boise was interesting simply to see Jenty on a national stage.

Could the make tweaks to the system? Sure, but I don’t think its broken

There’s no contract for 26 and beyond yet. Any changes for 25 have to be unanimous among the 11 conferences and ND, so probably don’t expect any changes for 25.

Problem with going to 16 teams are 1) how much is ESPN willing to pay for 4 more 1st round games? Number I heard earlier was 25 mil per game. Is that enough to add 4 teams and pay the teams now not getting byes? Each 1st round team gets 4 mil plus the road team gets 3 mil for traveling expenses and each family gets up to 3k for travel. So base cost for each game is 12 mil plus production costs. And 2) when are 4 more games going to be televised? Even NFL Wild card weekend has only 6 TV windows. How’s the CFP going to find 8 especially without going head to head against the NFL? This year was Friday at 8 and Saturday 12/4/8. 4 more games would be Sunday 12/4/8 and Monday at 8? Against the NFL? That’s 4 games that aren’t even worth 25 mil a piece. Maybe you can add 2 games late Friday and late Saturday. Friday 7/10:30, Saturday 12/3:30/7/10:30? But what if you have no west coast hosts? Kick off in Texas at 9:30 PM Central?

Golden’s a leading candidate for the now open Bengals DC job. What’s a better job, NFL coordinator or low P4 head coach? Hafley choose NFL. I’m sure others would take college head coach.

That would be an interesting move for him.

He does have ties to the Bengals was their LB coach for the 20-21 season. I for he did spend 5 yrs in the NFL before taking the ND job so I guess it wouldnt be a huge stretch. But pay and job security would say take the P4 coaching gig.

Then again he could go to cinci for a yr and still land the UVa job next year.

Also how is Goldon only 55 I swear that guy was in his 50s when I was coming through

I totally missed that the semis start tonight.

Notre Dame +1.5?

Yea that one snuck up on me as well. Im actually in a meeting tonight so will miss a chunk.

Id stay away from the ND spread personally. I don’t like depending on Leonard to run for 90 yards again and the ND receivers are avg.

On the flipside. This game has James Franklin choke written all over it. The ND defense has been the best unit I’ve seen this season. Goldon has been a stud scheming ways to stop opponents even with injuries.

I could see Penn st controlling the game on the ground and making life jist difficult enough for the Irish.

The O/U is what caught my interest. 45.5 is the number and I actually like the over here. Wouldn’t be surprised if its a nail biter but I need to feel something after that abomination of a game last night.

Notre Dame is different this year. That defense is legit. Speed everywhere. Riley Leonard is great. Will lead his team by example and the guys rally around him. And I’m a known James Franklin hater. Give me the Irish in a competitive game but they control throughout.

Agree with all of that. I worry about Leonard being overloaded. His stats fromnlast game were kinda silly accounted for anout 60% of their offense. Not sure depending on him to rush for 75+ yrds again.

I’m not convinced I trust PSU offense to get it done against this good of a defense. They’ve had a relatively easy path so far (even though I do keep picking against them). I’m weary of the line too… if asked to pick a score I was going ND 24-21. Right there at the line haha

The gold in the nittany lion logo is a great look.

Agree I’m not a big fan of the PSU offense but I do like their rushing game with 2 quality backs and a bailout target at TE. Mills not playing in the middle concerns me.
