I actually meant to ask if there was a “replay monitor present” version of AR 130.
Because I think by the time Dunn contacted Flip’s arm, time had run out, Flip was no longer airborne, the ball clearly wasn’t going in the hoop, and the foul was neither flagrant nor a technical. By my reading, that means foul is waved off with no shots, but I’m not an expert.
The Reece no contact or contact was a bang-bang 50-50 play. But they didn’t call it so OT
But the Dunn contact is what seems to be confusing everyone up to and including Grant’s uncle Bryan who was apparently drinking while near a press release machine last night…
Still haven’t watched anything other than the last 5 minutes of regulation and the first 12 minutes or so of the 1H. Unfortunately I still feel compelled to watch the last football game of the year with famous musical artist even though I really don’t care…
I think what we’ve learned from this episode is Duke doesn’t have the same cache on the sidelines without K to influence games, but the apparatus he built to influence the conference and media is still alive and well.
In Seth’s defense, he also wrote this, in his Athletic power rankings, where he put Virginia fifth:
“Virginia’s win over Duke may have been controversial, but that didn’t affect my rankings. I don’t like to step on that slippery slope. It’s the same for when Ohio State beat Rutgers back in December on a play that was later deemed illegal. Margin of victories matter, circumstances matter, but at the end of the day, a win is a win is a win.”
Looks like the game against Duke gave us a Quad 1 win … for about a day. Since then, Duke slipped to 31st in the NET, making this a Quad 2 game.
Ironically, if Duke had won, it would have been a Quad 1 loss for us.
Carolina looks like the only other Quad 1 opportunity left on our schedule. Still a chance that the wins over Duke, NC State or UNC wind up being Quad 1, but a better chance that the wins over Wake and Michigan slip to Quad 2.
Oh, well. We can’t control what the other teams do. All we can do is keep winning.
The happy part is that it distracts attention from RD’s blown coverage / ball watching! (but that’s why I like playing true frosh, selectively, in those situations – they can learn from the screw-ups)
At the moment, Clemson at home has slipped to a Quad 3 game. Hopefully they’ll move back up to Q2. Also an outside chance that JMU could move up to Quad 2 if they win out (the rest of their games are all at home).
Legit question, how much of a difference does it make at this point of Clemson being a Q2 or Q3 or Duke being Q1 vs Q2? Meaning, Hoos obviously in the tournament assuming they dont implode and at that point Quad doesn’t matter. I know the Quads will affect seeding, but it feels like at this point more or less we know what’s going to happen and the opportunity to move up or down or change regions are slim.
I leave this to the bracketologist. I come from a coaches mindset go out and win, and everything else will take care of itself in the loose, because I’ll always find an excuse to complain.
Will throw some gas on the fire here (as is my hobby - ). The best case for a foul is actually Reece’s left arm (i.e., the arm that doesn’t impact the ball). But I think the national guys are ignoring the bang-bang nature of that call – and that it can go either way – because of the stupid Dunn contact (which gets completely ignored 99.9% of the time) and the way the refs reacted to the Dunn contact (blowing the whistle) and the way the refs reacted to seeing the Dunn contact on replay (whatever odd decision they made there) and the way Bryan Kersey reacted with his press release machine that night (apparently after several bourbons).
