Duke game thread (Sat 4pm)

This is just incredible. How in the world did TTs get invited to Soul Train?!?!

The fact that all of this “whinging” plus Cryers complaints today are still going on is really pissing me off. @DFresh11 I’m hoping JWilly is pointing out to the team (and Kadin) that everyone is coming for us, even more now and that they should be offended that this is getting so much air time. We really need to stomp the rest of our ACC schedule.

This is such a great point. After the game a Duke fan in all blue and Ds was buttering Kihei up at the Dairy Market. Then the guy offered his dad a drink. I told the Duke guy it doesnt work that way. He had to buy us all one.

Needed @Gna2r vibes up in there!

I hear what you’re saying. But I’d hope and expect (because what we see is slightly different than what’s said behind closed doors), that the team is prepared to put the hammer down the rest of the way regardless of what happened on Saturday. If the team is truly being motivated by a bunch of message board chatter, then they are screwed. The reality is they have the world in front of them, likely top 5 in the country in a few hrs, a chance to win the ACC regular season, ACCT championship possible, deep NCAA tourney run possible, and a few guys have a chance to make a lot of money based on how they perform over the next 2 months.

Point being, if they are fired up from that, then they aint ready to go hunt.

Lol! Can you imagine how dominant Luka would have been had he played a year in college??

Ooooh the make money part is a very good point. You get out what you put in here

It’s not just message board chatter is it? It’s mainstream television media, social media, articles, John Cryer still making statements, PLUS it was a dook game whom- apparently Armaan *really was a big fan of growing up  (thanks Douchey V). Bottom line is that the *same motivation that Cryer is using to get his team motivated and earn some future calls, is the motivation that TB and JWilly can use to say- “Hey the entire world thinks that you’re undeserving- let’s go show them who we really are”…“Kadin get your ish together. Papi throw some bows. iMac let it fly…” etc. etc.

Yup, Reece is a boarder line first rounder, finish strong over the next few weeks and he could become a solid first round or lottery pick. Armaan is completely outside looking in, but go on a heater and he could work his way into draft talk. Dunn/Imac this is a chance to introduce yourself to the nation and start the discussion. Sheds same thing.
Not saying it’s likely but it’s not unheard of and snap off some big games and a tourney run and anything is possible.

Who was the guy at Michigan awhile back who had a huge tournament out of nowhere? McGary or something like that?

Was talking about that about Reece‼️ this weekend. Can he get to round 1 without scoring? 4 points in two dunks Saturday BUT ridiculous contributions every where else. I dont know the answer

Yup- everything you just said regarding all of the players being able to make themselves MORE recognizable can psychologically be achieved by being challenged by the media, trolls, fans and others they have to play. Prime examples are of course Jordan being offended at everything.

I don’t know either. My gut tells me no or at least it would be difficult given the current state of today’s game. Feels like he needs to show he’s at least a reliable shooter even if he doesn’t pour in points.

The Green Team would have been reallllly good.

I agree with what you’re saying, the difference for me is, external vs. internal motivators. Depending on or turning to the media message boards whatever for motivation is surrendering your power and requiring a jump start. Winners are internally motivated and have that fire. If this team is going to win they need that. The 19 team had that they hated to lose and would give it everything to make sure that 18 didn’t happen again.

Jordan taking everything personal was actually an internal thing. He was always going to be motivated he used external stuff as an excuse to create situations for himself, but the drive came from within. Same with Kobe, Bron… the list goes on.

Christian Braun going 21 last year definitely seemed NCAA tourney-fueled

I go back a bit, but I think Kemba, Mateen Cleves, more recently KG all got nice bumps from the tourney run. On the flip there’s more than a few examples of guys who stayed a yr too long, didn’t exceed what they did the previous year and as a result the market cooled for them.

Armaan is a good college player right now …
For the NBA - 6-4 2 guard with a very limited handle who really can’t dribble with his left and struggles to get his own shot… would have to be an elite defender to even be considered for a team. And I mean able to guard 3 spots on the floor …
Is he quick enough to guard ones? Or long and strong enough to guard NBA SF’s?

Agreed. I think unless Armaan goes for 24-8-8 down the stretch it’s going to be tough.
From your description, I place him in a similar comp to KG. Lots of good and potential, but at the end of the day there are about 100 guys coming out just like him and not enough to separate himself from the field.

But that said a strong showing down the stretch run can only help his odds. It could be the difference between no contract and only summer league spots to a late 2nd rnd or early FA signing and at least a shot.
