Sincere question- would you rather lose in the 1st round of the madness or get to MSG in the NIT?
McKneely and Beekman are good enough guards to win us a game in march. I don’t know what you’re even arguing here. Are you’re suggesting it’s better we don’t try to make the tournament because our chances of winning a game aren’t that high?
Lose in 1st round 100 times out of 100. NIT is meaningless
Not at all … some of you seem to think it’s a fact that playing Gertrude for some of Rohde and Isaac’s minutes would cause us to lose games we wouldn’t have…
That’s far from a fact… but y’all can keep believing it if you want to.
McKneely and Rohde almost always give up more points than they produce. Even if Eli doesn’t do a whole lot on offense, he is a great changeup defensively that plays havoc with an opponent’s rhythm and ability to get uncontested shots and drives.
Isaac was on fire last game right? 20 points and 1 assist produced 22 points.
Well he also let his freshman opponent go off for 15 points and 9 assists (4 were for threes) on 50% shooting. Produced 37 points.
What about when McKneely isn’t on fire and of course that’s every game for Rohde???
I don’t even know what point you are trying to make. All I said is Tony’s rotation decisions should be about making the tournament at this point in the season. If you believe that means playing Elijah over Rohde, fine, I won’t argue against that as I already said I don’t know the answer. I think all options are varying degrees of bad tbh
Varying degrees of bad … good one - made me
Chuckle
Rohde isnt good enough at 30 mpg to get us a W in march if we make the tournament.
We’re dangerously close to arguing in circles, but my contribution is this. Tony’s attitude towards The System is “it works if you work it,” consequently he really likes players that play within The System. iMac and Rohde both seem to be good at playing within The System, at least in Tony’s eyes, even when they’re not producing points.
Sometimes The System doesn’t work, regardless of how much we work it (as demonstrated by every single one of our losses), and we need guys who can make things happen outside of The System. Right now, Reece is the guy that seems capable of this. Some of us hypothesize that Eli can be another one of these guys, but needs playtime to both demonstrate that ability and smooth out his rough edges.
First round loss, easy choice
What would you prefer?
Yeah, you gotta be in the NCAA Tournament, even if it’s another first round flame out.
There’s no scenario in today’s college basketball landscape where the NIT is the better option.
Then why do teams play in the BlueBonnet Bowl and Cricket Celebration and Avocados from Mexico Bowls? I’ve heard a lot of coaches say the extra weeks of practice are valuable. Is that just coach speak?
Oh and my new fave - Tony the Tiger Bowl.
Put me in the minority of going to msg in the nit vs a another 1st round flame out.
I too would rather play in the worse tournament than the better tournament
My probem with the NIT … just as likely we have a first round flameout there. I know that was not the exact question but that is the truth.
I’ve said multiple times I want them to work in a few minutes per game of Gertrude. I don’t even think we all disagree that much on this topic.
Would like to see more Bond at the 3 too
For the first time in like forever we’d be an underdog round 1 if we make it (most likely). The chance to win a 8/9 type of game and then play spoiler sounds pretty fun actually.
Also missing the tourney and having to watch Reece in the NIT would be very depressing
Exactly. I can see the argument that come next January we could look back on a big 2024 NIT run as the catalyst for a bounce back 2025 season. But that would require us making at least the semifinals while playing the young guys and all of those young guys returning for next year. None of those things are guaranteed. Just as likely we lose in the 1st or 2nd round and then lose 2 guys to the transfer portal and there’s 0 benefit. We just missed the tournament
Reece, iMac, Bond, Groves, Minor/Dunn would be cool to see some. Balancing some defense with 3 point shooting.
or
Rohde, iMac, Bond, Groves, Dunn/Minor
or
just let it fly Leon. Shoot the 3.
My issue with those lineup ideas…
Who can touch the paint / beat their man 1:1? Prolly just Reece.
The solution to the PT dilemma ought to be obvious to everyone. We need to lobby the NCAA to increase games from 40 minutes to 60 minutes. ![]()
