I don’t really see what Bond provides that makes him a better option than those who play over him
Yeah I think this is the main defensible argument at this point - get him minutes with better lineups. I’d like to see it, too. But more than that, I’d like us to keep winning. If we can do both, great .Otherwise, don’t mess with the ingredients right now.
And fans wanting more of an exciting guy on the bench is a tale as old as time. It never ends. And even if they aren’t that exciting! They are on the bench so they must be mysterious and good, or different from what we are watching - so that’s cool. Just naming this thing that tends to always happen. Recogition is the first step to getting help, etc. etc.
Anywho, I’m excited for his future. And if he gets minutes with better lineups and helps us win, even better. As long as we’re winning.
FGA per minute played:
Gertrude 0.364
Beekman 0.356
Bond 0.323
McKneely 0.317
Groves 0.301
How 0.294
Minor 0.261
Dunn 0.237
Rohde 0.225
Buchanan 0.221
Harris 0.215
Walker 0.214
Murray 0.157
He and Bond are top three on the team. They come in and shoot.
That’s why I pointed it out. We all know that Bennett hates that, unless you’re a stone cold killer, like the other three on that list.
I don’t think he hates shooting good shots within the offense.
This shows me that Tristan just jacks up shots
If you remember Cory Stewart who played 2 years at UVa then transferred to UNCW. We measured his attempts in touches when he got in. It was very close to 1 touch to 1 shot ratio. Was hilarious
@DFresh11 First pass he made last night was a hard one I dunno if you saw that but I was like yo thats what we were talking about!
Dont think I saw it. He came in ready to make a difference though. Eli that is
It is coming yall!
Reece had a few turnovers during the Notre Dame game, yet using your logic he shouldn’t have had a chance to atone for them and shouldn’t be playing …Now of course that is ridiculous to suggest that Reece should sit or doesn’t deserve playing time because he definitely atoned for those turnovers, just as Gertrude did within a 3:41 second period. Yes he did have a foul/ defensive lapse but he also had a Block, Steal, Rebound, 1/2 shooting etc.
I get the sense that Gertrude is also a rhythm player, and he was *quickly able to find his rhythm and make some rhythm plays in a very short amount of time.
3:40 left in the game, Mia pressing and he has to bounce pass it back to the inbounder Dante and he threw it mad hard
I just popped over here to come back to a thread Fresh & I had going about Eli passing the ball more intentionally. I want Eli to play as much as he can - i think maybe I walked in on some broader discussion and wasnt making a point about minutes. Early games he was just needing to pass the ball harder in spots and it was good to see him do that last night even though it was a pressure scenario. He’s got the goods
Umm. It hit Bond in the hands. Bond didn’t catch. 80/20. Not on Eli. Bond needs to catch those
Dude - your criticism applies even more to Harris
I think we now know why he lost the handle on the way up for that dunk
We call that an “and 1” in most games.
Go Hoos. Play free and with JOY. Have fun. Beat FSU
May also be why refs didnt call Eli for traveling when his foot hit the ground before the flip…

Virginia’s Elijah Gertrude Loses The Ball But Is Still Able To Finish (youtube.com)
Pretty crazy body control
Shhhhhhh
I think he got it off just before the right foot hits…circled his right foot that is still above the ground as ball is leaving his hand. that’s my story any I am sticking to it
I’m really working the Greg Brady film review here (for those of you too young to get the reference, it’s from a Brady Bunch episode where Greg takes a photo of his school’s football player with their toe still in bounds)
In any event the defender that fouled him effectively knocked the ball free so Eli had a free play and an offensive rebound as well of his own miss then make hahahah
