⛹️‍♂️ Elijah Gertrude - Official Thread

I thought Eli’s jumper was well within the offensive system; come off a curl with space, he should shoot (or drive). And the drive is what you’re supposed to do if someone overcommits to pressing up on you; Reece makes the same play all the time. Even with the turnover, it’s the right pass in Blocker-Mover; I couldn’t tell if it was inaccurate, bad hands by Bond, or good play by the defender, but it’s the pass you’re supposed to make if you read it as being open.

Was it actually his reverse layup? Anyone have the link?

The turnover was probably 60% Bond and 40% Eli … wasn’t 100% accurate but still hit Bonds hand.

It’s the last highlight on this tape.
I like this one because it has the entire game - last 4 seconds or so of every possession.

It is the type of thing I have seen so much of from Eli playing summer before he got hurt. Also it is a play that maybe 2 guys on that court could ever make

And the number is proly 1 guy

Count me as one of those who would like to see more playing time for Bond and Eli. I can’t tell you why Tony makes the lineup decisions he makes. He doesn’t share his reasons. But I’m confident that he HAS reasons, and that those reasons are well thought-out, that they’re based on far more information than I’ve got, and that they reflect his experience and knowledge of the game, which also is far greater than mine.

I’m not saying Tony is always right. I’m saying I’m curious about why he’s doing what he’s doing, and that I might do things differently – but, ultimately, I trust his judgment more than I trust mine.

I do believe he always has a plan. Agree

Yeah, he’s allowed to shoot just like the walkons do in that situation. It would be better if he made them though.

As impressive as the bucket was, I was more impressed on how he crossed his guy up and blew by him. I saw someone say last night that Rohde’s handle is better than Eli’s. It is not. Rohde’s is jus more secure. But Eli has the ability to make shit happen.

Yes. He retreated then attacked. I would like to see Rohde drag the guy out with him then attack

Fresh - did EG play a lot of point in high school I can’t remember? Seems that’s where Tony has wanted him to get his PT this year which I find interesting. Maybe it’s less point guard and more lead guard. Semantics but he’s bringing the ball up most of the time he plays

If it was the only time….

Almost never at point as his HS PG is the best in the country proly (Tahaad Pertiford going to Auburn) . Also played with Simeon whats his name in AAU who decommited from UNC and is now at St Johns. Furthermore played on some teams with Elliot Cudeu so he has shined along side real PGs

He did have to run the point for his HS teams some in the summer and it was basically a disservice to his talents and proly the team ha

Simeon Wilcher

Dam you @HoozGotNext and @Hooandtrue I know way too much of this shit now

Rohde is the classic case of lost confidence. This offseason will be about improving his shot, but also coaches need to be showing him repeated clips of all the times he catches on a curl and doesn’t use the space to get into the lane. He has the handle and size to get there consistently and it would open up a lot of good looks for him and others. Like dude, take a few dribbles and hit a floater or short J. I remain optimistic he’ll figure it out eventually but he is what he is this season

Any game Eli has played non garbage minutes he has been fine and actually shot above 50 percent overall from the field.

I dont know that he deserves to play non garbage minutes but if is telling for me

Go Hoos!

You see Isaac and rohde bring the ball up a bunch too. Neither of them are point guards. I feel like we initiate our offense pretty frequently by having Reece tough the ball second, coming off a screen, which means when our primary initiator gets the ball, everybody on the floor is already moving and reacting. I think it makes it easier for Reece to find seams.

Its also the point of attack with Reece!! We dont have Edey to make the top of the key wide open in every direction. Rohde being an excellent secondary primary sorta initiator makes that work at times

Think Eric Snow and Allen Iverson with the 76ers

Come on this is a bit of a weak argument. We ran a play for him to get open and drive the lane and he took the opportunity to shoot it. I know you’re trying to stick up for Tony by sacrificing what Elijah has done but that isn’t necessary.

He shot 50% yesterday. No one is saying that he is great from the perimeter at the moment, he’s not, but he’s great at driving the lane and scoring in the paint. Who else besides Reece is good at that?

I’d like to see Elijah in lineup with IMac and Jake, I’d imagine the spacing their shooting provides would open things up for Elijah to attack.

According to KenPom, a lineup with IMac and Jake has been used by the Hoos about 10% of the time in the last five games, but those lineups have all featured either Rhode or Taine. Steal some of those minutes away from them and let Elijah cook.

He wildly missed a jumper and made a sick layup. yes, that is technically “shooting” 50% but is that really what is being discussed?
